From product strategy to brand storytelling, the James M. Kilts Center for Marketing connects Booth students with real-world insights, events, and career-building opportunities in marketing-related roles. In this blog, we will share more information about the Kilts Center regarding their mission, the communities they serve, and the resources available to students.
The Kilts Center champions Chicago Booth’s unique, evidence-based approach to marketing and helps advance the field in theory and in practice.
The Kilts Center advances this mission by:
Through the Kilts Center’s programming, students can gain access to academic and industry experts, apply their learning to real-world challenges, and deepen their understanding of how the application of key marketing frameworks drives business. The center’s programs help prepare future Booth graduates for success in a variety of roles such as tech product management, tech product marketing management, brand management, and general management.
The Kilts Center offers a wide range of opportunities to build real-world marketing skills and connect with industry leaders. Experiential learning is a cornerstone of the marketing curriculum at Booth, and the Center brings this to life through supporting hands-on lab courses where students apply classroom concepts to real business challenges. In the Digital Marketing Lab and Lab in Developing New Products and Services, students have partnered with top companies like Google, Uber, Airbnb, Walmart, and PepsiCo—developing innovative, high-impact solutions for real clients.
For nine years, the Center has also hosted the annual Case Competition which has given Booth students the opportunity to work on a real-world challenge for a sponsoring company and build marketing skills important to jobs in product, brand, and general management. Past partners include Whirlpool, Ferrara Candy, and Microsoft.
The Kilts Center also collaborates closely with student groups at Chicago Booth including the Booth Technology Groups (FT and E/W), Marketing Group (FT), and Marketing Club (E/W), as well as the Booth Product Management Club, Booth Artificial Intelligence Group, Analytics Club, Corporate Management Group, and others. Through these partnerships, the Center supports student leaders in setting goals, planning annual programming, and expanding their reach. This includes connecting clubs with alumni for events, facilitating company visits during treks, and ensuring students get the most out of their Booth experience.
