Stigler Center Economics of Healthcare Conference
In collaboration with Chicago Booth Healthcare Initiative
October 21-22, 2021 | Rubenstein Forum at the University of Chicago
About the Conference
In 2020, the Stigler Center put together a group of renowned economists working in the industrial organization of healthcare to help take stock of the current body of knowledge in the field and drive research moving forward. This group of 25+ scholars, led by Fiona Scott Morton (Yale) and Craig Garthwaite (Northwestern Kellogg), has been further split among 8 subgroups focused on: (i) state enforcement; (ii) organizational economics; (iii) innovation; (iv) rural; (v) generics; (vi) political economy; (vii) consumer behavior; and (viii) PBMs. Each subgroup is tasked with drafting short articles that summarize the most relevant literature in this field and outline key outstanding research questions. Ultimately, the hope is that these articles help engage economists/other academics that are not currently working on the economics of healthcare but would be an excellent addition to it.
At the conference, the groups will present the first drafts of these papers and receive feedback on what they can improve or are missing.
Please note this conference is by invitation only.
