In this blog, we will discuss key takeaways from Chicago Booth’s Part-Time MBA employment report from 2024. We’ll cover topics ranging from top industry and function pursuits to career pivot outcomes and more. Here are our key takeaways from the 2024 Part-Time MBA employment data.
Chicago Booth’s Part-Time MBA employment report offers valuable information about how Booth students advance their careers during the program and how they fare after graduation in terms of industry, function, employer, employment source, salary, and more. With access to this resource, you can see the range of functions and industries in which our students decided to work both while pursuing their MBA studies and after. The 2024 Employment Report includes graduates from Summer 2023 through Spring 2024.
When it comes to shifting careers, 78 percent of students changed positions during the 12 months prior to graduation and up to four months after finishing the program. Of those students who were seeking a career change, 56 percent moved to an entirely new organization, 36 percent advanced or changed positions at their current company, and 8 percent started their own company. Furthermore, of those Boothies who reported moving to a new organization, 57 percent changed functions, 59 percent changed industries, and 27 percent changed geographies. For graduates who decided to remain at their current companies, 86 percent received a promotion and 28 percent changed functions.

Given the vast majority of our graduates are located in the United States, key regions include the Midwest (69.6 percent), the Northeast (7 percent), and the West (9 percent). Furthermore, within the Midwest, 62.4 percent of graduates secured or maintained roles in Chicago after graduation.
Boothies interested in working at a new organization found great success with the many companies looking to hire students from our Part-Time MBA Program upon graduation. Of those who changed employers, 33.7 percent attributed securing their positions to Booth-facilitated channels, such as campus recruiting, job postings, alumni contacts, and faculty/staff/student groups.
