Sokolov Executive MBA Program
To gain a global perspective, you need an MBA from a global school. Earn an MBA from Booth in Chicago, London, or Hong Kong without interrupting your career.
Sokolov Executive MBA ProgramWhat does it take to advise high-net-worth clients and firms in an increasingly complex global financial landscape?
For Claudio Macari, a private wealth manager at Azimut Capital Management and a current EMBA student, it means combining deep market expertise with sound judgment and long-term perspective. Based in Milan, Italy, he works with individuals and organizations to help them achieve their financial objectives and grow assets under management at a publicly traded investment firm specializing in alternative investments.
Just a few months into Booth’s Sokolov EMBA Program in London, he is already seeing a tangible impact from the rigorous EMBA coursework and diverse cohort.
In this Q&A, he shares how his immersive experience in the program is shaping his leadership approach, expanding his network, and influencing how he makes decisions every day.
The valuable knowledge I’ve acquired over the past months makes me feel more confident, even when interacting with high-standing professionals. The large number of assignments, quizzes, and tests has made me increasingly efficient in allocating my time.
Also, importantly, the group study has bettered my proficiency in working with colleagues at my firm. As a wealth manager, I advise firms and executives on a daily basis. To be perceived as an expert in the dynamics of business is crucial for reputation and credibility. In this sense, classes like Financial Accounting allow me to interact with my counterparts as equals.
The chance to meet executives from areas so different from one another like Asia, Europe, and North America is exciting and enriching. It is fantastic to share opinions and experiences with people from all over the world, ask them questions, and receive advice. I don’t think a different format would be as valuable a learning experience as this. Now I clearly see why a prominent institution such as UChicago aims to—and takes pride in—having the highest possible degree of diversity.
It’s been terrific, totally satisfactory. The faculty are passionate, knowledgeable, and willing to help students, both during class and with the assignments they give. From very early in the morning to late in the evening and even on weekends, they are always there for us. It makes me feel supported and taken care of.

One thing that particularly stands out and impresses me is how theory is paired with practice. Whenever a new concept is explained, an actual case is presented where that concept was, or still is, applied. With courses like Microeconomics and Financial Accounting, this has been true from the very first class.
To participate in both the program and professional activities requires self-discipline and efficiency in allocating time. I earned both of my previous degrees while working full time, but they weren’t so intense and demanding.
While I struggled at the beginning of the program, I feel like I am getting more comfortable in managing both commitments. It’s a matter of motivation and training.
Of the top business schools of the United States, Booth is the only one to have a campus in Europe.
This makes logistics convenient for EMEA professionals like me who get to attend most classes in such a unique city like London—advanced, full of history, and just a few steps away from some of the world’s largest financial institutions.
This city provides me with the widest range of opportunities, on several levels and areas of interest. All of this—while enjoying Booth’s values, diversity, and academic rigor—is a priceless opportunity.
And the program has only just begun. I can’t wait to see what comes next.
