Christopher McGowan serves as the general partner of CJM Ventures (CJMV), a private equity firm formed in 2011 focused on buyouts and growth equity investments in companies located near Chicago. CJMV's portfolio of five companies includes OPTO International, an Illinois-based manufacturer of retail shelving and display systems; Cedar Capital, a Chicago-based asset management firm; and Autism Home Support Services, the largest provider in Illinois of home-based therapy for children on the autism spectrum. At Chicago Booth, McGowan co-teaches two MBA courses and serves as an entrepreneur-in-residence and senior advisor in the Polsky Center. Within his role in the Polsky Center, he is in his fifth year of leading the Sterling Partners Investment Thesis Challenge, his third year co-teaching Booth’s Private Equity and Venture Capital Lab, and he will be conducting the inaugural Oxford-Chicago Global Private Equity Challenge. McGowan retired in 2011 from a 12-year career at Madison Dearborn Partners, where he served as a managing director and co-headed their basic industries practice. McGowan is an active angel investor; he serves on the board of directors and portfolio advisory board of Hyde Park Angels and as chairman of the limited partner advisory committee for Hyde Park Venture Partners I. He also serves on The Laboratory Schools’ board of directors, the board of trustees for the Court Theatre at the University of Chicago, and the SHSAA board of trustees for Stuyvesant High School.
McGowan holds an M.B.A. degree from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration and a B.A. from Columbia College of Arts and Sciences.
