In June Chicago Booth presented the 2018 Alumni Angel Awards to five outstanding graduates. The annual awards recognize alumni who make exceptional contributions to the Booth community by mentoring, guiding, and advising students.
Current students nominate candidates for the award, and the Dean’s Student and Alumni Representatives group (DStAR) chooses a winner in each of five categories.
“The goal of this award is to show off the awesome Booth network and honor those who make a great contribution to the community,” said DStAR member Perry Holen, a Full-Time MBA student. “Though we can only give five awards, there are countless alumni making Booth an amazing place.”
This year’s winners are:
Kelly McCartney, ’16, On-Campus Involvement
A consultant at the Boston Consulting Group (BCG), McCartney played a key role in BCG recruiting at Booth. She was recognized for her willingness to go above and beyond her recruiting role to connect with students and offer general career guidance.
Bjorn Meier, ’09 (EXP-14), Professional Guidance
Meier was recognized for his mentorship and guidance in Sydney, where he is COO at Benestar Group. The nominating student noted that Meier was generous with his time and gave excellent professional and personal advice.
Katie Perri, ’16, Personal Support
In nominating Perri, students noted her active involvement in Booth’s tech scene and her willingness to share information about her role at Adobe—where she is global campaign marketing manager, photography—and about the industry in general. They also cited her generosity in reaching out with guidance and contacts.
Jeff Stine, ’13, Opportunity Creation
As partner at VestedWorld, Stine gives Booth students the opportunity to experience impact investing and international development. Those who worked with him said he was passionate about involving Booth students in his work.
Anonymous, International Initiative
This award recognized the contributions of a Booth graduate in India who chose to remain anonymous. The nominating student cited the awardee’s tireless work to make last year’s Pan-India Booth Alumni Retreat a success, saying the event offered a glimpse into the vibrant alumni community there.
David Falk, ’21, aspires to be an advocate for change in the STEM world and empower others who identify as LGBTQ+ to bring their full selves to work.
