The Peru trip was wonderful in providing intermediate physical activities, which allowed all to participate. On the first day, we were given the opportunity to bike throughout Lima and go surfboarding. The idea of surfboarding in Lima elated me as I had never surfed before—what a great spot to learn how to surf with the beautiful view of Lima. Biking throughout the city, we saw the beautiful architecture that Lima has to offer its audience. After practicing our surfing stances, we were off into the sea to practice our newfound skills. I can proudly say that I stood up a few times! I even have some fun photos to prove it too. Throughout my time surfing, the instructor continued to emphasize “Focus and Relax.” His teaching resonated with me not only as I was applying my new skills to the turbulent waters but also as I navigate my journey throughout Booth. As part-time students, we learn to juggle our coursework and professional careers, which requires dedication, focus, and determination, but it is equally important we relax, stay present, and enjoy the experience. Thus, “Focus and Relax” is a memory and lesson I will continue to take with me throughout my Booth journey and on.
