Ask a Boothie: What Does the Flexible Curriculum Mean to You?
In our roles as Admissions Directors, we get asked a lot of questions by prospective students. Some of those questions, however, are best answered by current students.
Our "Ask a Boothie" series features students answering your questions. Some are lighthearted, some are in-depth, and all get to the heart of the Booth experience. Because of the academic freedom to choose your own path, each Booth student has a unique MBA experience. How does that make them feel? We'll let them tell you as they answer the question.
What does the flexible curriculum mean to you?

Having the ability to choose not only the classes I want to take, but also when to take them, and in which level to take them, is paramount for my experience.

That was the main reason I came to Booth is because I didn't want to spend time taking classes that I didn't want to take.

I really wanted to be able to take Advanced Negotiations and The Firm and the Non-Market Environment, and classes outside of that core I'd taken at undergrad.

Being able to structure those classes in a way that sort of fits my interest, and then also prepares me for sort of a future role.

I've only ever taken three days of classes or fewer. That's enabled me to take a number of internships during the academic year.

You can also shift around based on what professors you want to take, or if you want to take a certain class before you start your internship.

There are some courses that I want to take before I start recruiting so that I feel more prepared for recruiting like the new products lab for the product management interns.

I get to kind of figure out what's important to me and get out of business school what I want, and make sure that I am getting the most out of this investment that I can.

So for me, flexible curriculum is just, explore whatever makes you think you're going to be best prepared for your job after Booth. And I've absolutely loved it.
