LLM Workshop

Overview: Embark on a hands-on journey into the world of Large Language Models (LLMs) and explore the intricacies of fine-tuning models to craft specialized AI applications. Tailored specifically for master's students, this 90-minute workshop offers a comprehensive understanding of LLMs and their diverse functionalities. Dive deep into popular frameworks like Langchain and Fixie, experiment with diverse models, and source datasets from renowned platforms like Kaggle and Hugging Face. By the workshop's end, participants will not only be familiar with the theoretical constructs of LLMs but will also have a tangible AI application they've built.
Workshop Objectives:

  • Introduce participants to the core concepts of Large Language Models (LLMs).
  • Familiarize students with pivotal frameworks such as Langchain and Fixie.
  • Explore the vast range of models available and their respective strengths and weaknesses.
  • Provide guidance on sourcing the most relevant datasets from Kaggle and Hugging Face.
  • Engage in a hands-on project, leading to the creation of a tailored AI application.

Agenda:
0-10 minutes: Introduction to LLMs, brief history and evolution of LLMs, and importance and implications in the AI industry
10-20 minutes: Diving into frameworks, overview of Langchain and its capabilities, introduction to Fixie and its unique features, and comparing and contrasting various frameworks
20-30 minutes: Model exploration, play and experiment with a variety of pre-trained models, and understand the fundamental differences and use-cases for each model
30-45 minutes: Dataset procurement, browsing Kaggle and Hugging Face for suitable datasets, selecting the appropriate dataset for custom tasks, and tips and tricks for effective dataset selection
45-75 minutes: Hands-on application building, guided session on building a specialized AI application, fine-tuning models on selected datasets, and integration and testing of the final application
75-90 minutes: Wrap-up and Q&A, showcasing the applications developed by participants, and addressing queries and further discussions

Who Should Attend?
Master's students and pre-docs who are keen on deepening their understanding of LLMs, wishing to explore AI application development or looking to hone their skills in model fine-tuning.

When and Where?
October 12th from 10:30am until 12pm in Harper C05

Prerequisites:
While the workshop is beginner-friendly, familiarity with basic machine learning concepts will be beneficial. We will provide a list of resources
