Biography

André Bauer is the founder and elected chair of the SPEC RG Predictive Data Analytics Working Group. Prior to joining Booth, he was an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at the Illinois Institute of Technology. 

Bauer believes the overarching goal of his research is to expand the potential of data science to accelerate scientific discovery by integrating advances in data science, artificial intelligence, and systems research. As scientific progress increasingly becomes data-intensive and computationally demanding, unlocking its full potential requires both novel analytical methods and computing infrastructures capable of supporting them efficiently, reliably, and sustainably. His work addresses these challenges through a combination of data science, scientific computing, and performance engineering, leveraging interdisciplinary expertise to develop scalable computational methods and robust software systems that enable emerging data-driven applications across diverse scientific domains. 

Bauer was a postdoctoral researcher at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Chicago and a researcher at Argonne National Laboratory.   He received a PhD in computer science from the University of Würzburg, Germany.
