Byron Matthews, ’05 (XP-74), was recently named CEO of Talent Inc, a provider of tech-enabled career services based in New York. Prior to joining Talent, Matthews was chief commercial officer at Korn Ferry Digital, an organizational consulting firm based in Los Angeles.
Ryan Ostrom, ’04, has joined the San Diego based restaurant company Jack in the Box Inc. as executive vice president and CMO. Most recently, Ostrom served as chief brand officer for General Nutrition Centers, a provider of health and wellness products based in Pittsburgh.
Lacework, a security platform for the cloud based in San Jose, California, announced the appointment of Mike Staiger, ’90, as CFO. Prior to joining Lacework, Staiger was CFO of ThousandEyes, an SaaS-based network intelligence platform, based in San Jose, California.
Sabra Health Care REIT, Inc., announced the appointment of Catherine Cusack, ’97, to its board of directors. Based in Irvine, California, Sabra is a real estate investment trust focused on the healthcare industry. Cusack currently serves as COO of Cornell Capital LLC, a private investment firm with offices in New York and Hong Kong.
Sheila Hooda, ’88, has been appointed to the board of directors for Scion and will serve as chair of the audit committee. ScION Tech Growth is a newly organized blank check company in London. Hooda serves on several boards, including for the insurance company Mutual of Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. She is CEO, president, and founder of Alpha Advisory Partners, a New York–based advisory firm for the financial and business services sectors.
The Business Intelligence Group has named Arun Bhatia, ’06, CIO of the New York–based healthcare enablement company Brighton Health Plan Solutions, among the winners of its 2021 BIG Innovations Awards. The annual business awards program recognizes organizations, products, and people that are bringing new ideas to life in innovative ways. Based in London, the Business Intelligence Group is an organization supporting and advising market research in business.
Denise Duffy, ’03, was promoted to vice president of surveillance and analytics at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, one of 12 Reserve Banks that comprise the Federal Reserve System. Duffy has been with the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland since 2016, most recently serving as assistant vice president of surveillance and analytics.
The Wall Street Journal featured Sally Grimes, ’97, in its Personal Board of Directors series, in which top business leaders talk about the people they turn to for advice and how those people helped them succeed. Grimes is the CEO of the energy bar maker Clif Bar & Co. based in Emeryville, California. In the article, she spoke about relying on some of the food industry’s most accomplished executives to navigate career challenges.
The Polsky Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the University of Chicago has hired Christine Karslake, ’95, as managing director of Polsky Science Ventures. “The opportunity to join the Polsky Center and manage a diverse portfolio of companies stemming from University of Chicago research was something that deeply aligned with my career interests,” said Karslake. Most recently, she served as CEO of Quest Strategies, a company she founded that provides strategic consulting to high-growth companies.
Nation’s Restaurant News has named Brian Niccol, ’03, CEO of the restaurant chain Chipotle Mexican Grill headquartered in Newport Beach, California, to its 2021 NRN Power List. The list recognizes 50 influential people who represent the best in restaurant leadership. Nation’s Restaurant News is a New York–based media brand in the foodservice industry.
Thoma Bravo, a private equity investment firm based in San Francisco and Chicago, announced the promotion of A.J. Rohde, ’10, to senior partner, a newly created role. Rohde joined the company in 2010 as a vice president and most recently served as a partner.
The Boston Business Journal featured Shai Terem, ’10, in an article about his new role as president and CEO of Markforged Inc. and his growth plans for the Watertown, Massachusetts-based 3D-printing company. Terem was promoted in October 2020, previously serving as COO.
Robert Tuchscherer, ’04, has been promoted to senior managing director at Golub Capital, a direct lender and credit asset manager headquartered in New York. Tuchscherer joined the company in 2007 as a senior vice president in the Chicago office and most recently served as a managing director.
Ari Block, ’19 (XP-88), founder and CEO of EMS Forest, announced that his startup was accepted into the 2021 class of the STANLEY + Techstars Accelerator, a program focused on solutions for artificial intelligence in advanced manufacturing. Based in Denver, EMS Forest connects OEMs, CMs, and downstream suppliers to optimize product realization cycles.
Joanne Chen, ’14, has been promoted to general partner at the early-stage venture capital firm Foundation Capital in Palo Alto, California. She’s just the second female general partner in the firm’s 26-year history. Chen first joined the firm in 2014.
Laurent Foraud, ’16, has been named general manager of Japan Tobacco International’s business in Myanmar. Foraud has been with the company since 2016, most recently serving as general manager of Laos. Japan Tobacco is an international tobacco company with operations in more than 130 countries and headquarters in Geneva.
Flexpoint Ford, a private equity investment firm headquartered in Chicago, announced the promotion of Dominic Hood, ’14, to managing director. Hood joined the Flexpoint Ford financial services team in 2010 as an associate.
Sean Kendall, ’16, has been named a principal at ARCH Venture Partners, an early stage venture firm based in Chicago. He joined the company in 2015, most recently serving as a senior associate.
LEK Consulting, a global management consulting firm headquartered in Boston, has promoted Geoff McQueen, ’13, to partner. McQueen joined the company in 2013 and is part of the technology, media, and telecom consumer practices in the Los Angeles office.
Corey Ritter, ’18, has been promoted to senior associate at ARCH Venture Partners, an early stage venture firm based in Chicago. Ritter joined the company in 2017, most recently serving as an associate.
Arathi Sasidharan, ’13, has been promoted to partner at LEK Consulting, a global management consulting firm headquartered in Boston. Based in the Singapore office, Sasidharan joined the company in 2013 and is a leader in the Asia-Pacific life sciences and healthcare practice.
Nilay Thakar, ’18, has been promoted to senior associate at ARCH Venture Partners, an early stage venture firm based in Chicago. Thakar joined the company in 2017.
