John M. Liew, AB ’89, MBA ’94, PhD ’95
John M. Liew, AB '89, MBA '94, PhD '95, is a co-founder of AQR Capital Management, a global investment management firm, where he oversees research, trading and portfolio management. Prior to AQR, he worked at Goldman, Sachs & Co. as a portfolio manager in the asset management division where he developed and managed quantitative trading strategies. He began his career at Trout Trading, developing quantitative market-neutral stock-selection strategies. Liew has published articles in The Journal of Portfolio Management and Financial Analysts Journal, and received the Bernstein Fabozzi/Jacobs Levy award and the Graham and Dodd award for his articles.
Liew is a member of the board of trustees at the University of Chicago and at the Mount Sinai Health System. He earned a BA in economics from the University of Chicago, where he was elected a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and went on to earn an MBA and a PhD in finance, both from Chicago Booth.
