Leadership Learning Circles are designed for Chicago Booth alumni in C-suite, senior-level, and founding leadership roles. Eligibility requirements vary by MBA program to account for differences in typical career stage at graduation. Full-Time MBA graduates are eligible to apply ten years after graduation. Evening, Weekend, and Executive MBA graduates are eligible to apply upon graduation. 

LLCs share characteristics of mentoring and networking, and yet, they are distinct from each. Unlike mentoring, there is no one-way transfer of knowledge from a more experienced leader to a less experienced one. And unlike a networking group, the primary purpose is not to build professional connections.

Instead, LLCs bring together accomplished leaders who commit to learning from one another over time. Through structured, professionally facilitated conversations, members become trusted thought partners who help one another navigate leadership challenges, opportunities, and transitions.

Each meeting is organized around the current leadership challenges and opportunities of its members. Participants bring leadership situations for discussion, and fellow members ask questions, offer perspectives, and help each other think more deeply about complex issues. Meetings follow a structured process designed to promote reflection, perspective-sharing, candid conversation, and mutual accountability.

LLCs have 10 virtual meetings during the program year, with breaks in August and December. Meetings typically last 2.5–3 hours, and each circle determines its meeting schedule based on member availability. 

Members are expected to attend all 10 meetings, with up to two absences allowed during the program year. Consistent participation helps members build the trust and relationships that are central to the LLC experience. 

Before their first meeting, new members participate in a two-part orientation introducing the LLC meeting model and foundational communication practices.

LLCs generally meet virtually, making it easier for members to attend despite busy schedules. We organize LLCs geographically whenever possible, so members can meet in person when they choose. The program typically includes one in-person meeting each year, usually in July, and some circles supplement their virtual meetings with additional in-person gatherings. 

We thoughtfully match participants into circles based on leadership experience, professional background, learning goals, geographic location, and overall group fit. Our goal is to bring together diverse perspectives and provide a strong foundation for trust and shared learning.

LLCs are available to eligible Booth alumni around the world. Meetings are held virtually, but geographic location is considered when forming circles to make scheduling across time zones easier. New circles are formed in regions where there is sufficient interest to create a strong group of participants.

Strong LLC members are committed to participating actively, engaging candidly and respectfully with different perspectives, maintaining confidentiality, and building relationships over time. Members join their circles as both learners and contributors, sharing their experiences and perspectives while learning from others.

We review each application carefully and create groups based on participant fit, location, and program capacity. Because space is limited and thoughtful circle composition is important to the experience, placement is not guaranteed. Applicants are notified by email once placement decisions have been made.

Thanks to donor support, there is no fee to participate. Members are expected to make a meaningful commitment of their time, energy, and perspectives throughout their participation in the program.
