Anil Kashyap, Professor, Chicago Booth, on Exit Triggers

Anil Kashyap Anil K Kashyap is the Edward Eagle Brown Professor of Economics and Finance and Richard N. Rosett Faculty Fellow at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. He is one of the faculty directors of the Chicago Booth Initiative on Global Markets. He has authored and edited five books and over 40 scholarly articles on banking, business cycles, the Japanese economy and monetary policy.

Prof. Kashyap currently works as a consultant for the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago, and serves as a member of the Economic Advisory Panel of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and as a Research Associate for the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). He is one of the international advisors to the Economic and Social Research Institute of Cabinet Office of the Japanese Government, is on the Congressional Budget Office's Panel of Economic Advisers, and serves on the Board of Directors of the Bank of Italy’s Einuadi Institute of Economics and Finance. He is a member of the Squam Lake Group, the Bellagio Group of academics and economic officials, and of the International Monetary Fund’s Advisory Group on the development of a macro-prudential policy framework.


Yannis Manuelides, Allen and Overy lead partner on Greek sovereign restructuring, on Contract Redenomination

Yannis Manuelides Yannis Manuelides is a London-based partner with Allen & Overy. Mr. Manuelides has worked on project finance, corporate finance, acquisition and leveraged finance, debt restructurings, securitisations and capital market transactions. Most recently, he acted for the Steering Committee of private creditors which negotiated with Greece and the official sector the Private Sector Involvement for Greece. Mr Manuelides regularly lectures on the Eurozone crisis and has contributed to Allen & Overy's Global Law Intelligence Unit's publications on the subject including "The Euro can currency unions" and "How the Greek debt reorganisation of 2012 changed the rules of sovereign insolvency"

Luigi Zingales, Professor, Chicago Booth, on Banking Issues

Luigi Zingales Luigi Zingales studies a wide variety of topics ranging from corporate governance and financial development to political economy and the economic effects of culture. He co-developed the Financial Trust Index, which monitors the level of trust that Americans have toward the financial system. His research has been published in all the major economic and finance academic journals. His latest book, A Capitalism for the People, which discusses the decline of the American capitalist model and ways to address it, was published in June 2012.

Zingales, who in 2003 received the Bernacer Prize for the best young European financial economist, is currently Vice President of the American Finance Association, Lead Independent Director of Telecom Italia, and has just been elected member of the American Academy of Arts and Science. He is also a faculty research fellow for the National Bureau of Economic Research, a research fellow for the Center for Economic Policy Research, and a fellow of the European Governance Institute. He also serves on the Committee on Capital Markets Regulation.

Willem Buiter, Chief Economist, Citigroup, on Contagion Possibilities

Willem Buiter Willem Buiter joined Citi in January 2010 as Chief Economist. One of the world’s most distinguished macro economists, Willem previously was Professor of Political Economy at the London School of Economics and is a widely published author on economic affairs in books, professional journals and the press. Between 2005 and 2010, he was an advisor to Goldman Sachs advising clients on a global basis. Prior to this, Willem was Chief Economist for the European Bank for Reconstruction & Development between 2000 and 2005 and from 1997 and 2000 a founder external member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Bank of England. He has been a consultant to the IMF, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Asian Development Bank, the European Commission and an advisor to many central banks and finance ministries.

Willem has held a number of other leading academic positions, including Cassel Professor of Money & Banking at the LSE between 1982 and 1984, Professorships in Economics at Yale University in the US between 1985 and 1994, and Professor of International Macroeconomics at Cambridge University in the UK between 1994 and 2000. Willem has a B.A. in Economics from Cambridge University and a PhD in Economics from Yale University. He has been a member of the British Academy since 1998 and was awarded the CBE in 2000 for services to economics.

David Meline, Chief Financial Office, 3M, on Risk Management Strategies for Multinational Firms

David Meline David Meline became Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of 3M effective April 1, 2011.  David's most recent position was vice president, corporate controller and chief accounting officer.

Prior to joining 3M in 2008, David had been at General Motors for 20 years, serving in various capacities; including vice president and chief financial officer for GM North America.  He has held senior-level positions with GM Europe in Switzerland, GM Daewoo in South Korea, GM Brasil, GM Kenya and at GM's New York office in the company's treasurer's office.  David began his career at AT&T Corporation as a product design engineer.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Iowa State University; a Master of Science degree in Economics from the London School of Economics, London, United Kingdom; and an M.B.A in Finance from the University of Chicago.

In addition to 3M, David serves on the boards of Minnesota Opera, United Way Greater Twin Cities, and University of Chicago Booth CFO Advisory Forum.

Axel Weber, Chairman, UBS, Keynote Address

Axel A. Weber Axel A. Weber was nominated for election to the UBS Board of Directors and proposed as its non-independent Vice-Chairman on 1 July 2011. He was president of the Deutsche Bundesbank, Germany's central bank, between 2004 and 2011. As president of the Bundesbank, he served concurrently in the following positions: member of the Governing Council of the European Central Bank; member of the Board of Directors of the Bank for International Settlements; German governor of the International Monetary Fund; member of the Steering Committees of the European Systemic Risk Board and Financial Stability Board; and member of the G7 and G20 Ministers and Governors, respectively. Prior to joining the Bundesbank, he had a distinguished academic career in Germany, where he was a professor of economics at the universities of Bonn, Frankfurt am Main and Cologne.
