Chicago Booth Finance Club and Gleacher Speakers is very proud to present a conversation on “Success in Professional Services” led by Mark Herrmann, the Vice President and Chief Counsel - Litigation at Aon. Because professional services encompasses Investment Banking, consulting, asset management and other professions sought by MBAs, Mr. Herrmann’s topic is relevant for almost anyone who wants to advance in their current position or is looking for a new position. This discussion will focus on the ways that individuals can leverage their natural skills to be more effective and make professional gains in the workplace.

As a leader at Aon and previously with Jones Day, Mr. Herrmann has learned the importance of client service, people management, networking and office politics. Further, Mr. Herrmann is the author of The Curmudgeon’s Guide to Practicing Law, the American Bar Association’s second best-selling book of all time. The Curmudgeon’s Guide to Practicing Law was a finalist for a Benjamin Franklin Award (the independent book publishers’ equivalent of a National Book Award) in 2007. Written in the voice of lawyer who’s been practicing for just a bit too long, the book provides advice about how to succeed in a professional services environment. The blog Adam Smith, Esq. described The Curmudgeon’s Guide as “utterly addictive” and “unputdownable,” while a reviewer at the University of Wisconsin called it “brutally honest, but awfully funny.”

We’re pleased to announce that the author of The Curmudgeon’s Guide has agreed to discuss his book and thoughts on career advancement with the Chicago Booth Finance Club and Gleacher Speakers. Please join the Curmudgeon himself, author Mark Herrmann, at our meeting on Saturday, May 21.
