This is an update from our highly valuable and heavily attended meeting on the same topic three years ago. The "centerpiece" of this meeting will be both the answers to our 60 Members' questions (50 wide-ranging questions already submitted!) about how to handle this annual challenge, and, "the practical steps you can take tomorrow" to address this difficult and complex issue.

Our panel of four experts/"super speakers" will provide both written answers for our individual members and present them in general form as the centerpiece to their presentation on this "timely" topic.

Kenneth Carruthers (Speaker)

Ken Carruthers, Area Vice-President, for Matria Healthcare. Sales Executive, held prior positions with Intracorp (subsidiary of Cigna Health Care), Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Rush-Prudential Health Plans of Chicago and Health Risk Management of Minneapolis. He provides experience covering sales competencies in a variety of managed health care initiatives; including network recruiting/contracting, developed capitation-pricing models for various network product offerings (PPO, EPO, HMO) and conducted feasibility studies for payers, as well as having product expertise in network, wellness, medical, case, demand, and disease management. Mr. Carruthers earned his bachelor's degree from Illinois Benedictine College in Lisle, Ill (1976). Upon graduation he was a high school teacher, coach and guidance counselor. He also was signed as a Free Agent with both the New York Giants (1977) and Denver Broncos (1979) of the National Football League.

Mary Ann’s team is responsible for Fee Negotiations and Second-Tier PPO repricing for non-network hospitals, physicians and ancillary medical services. She held prior positions with Gallagher Benefit Administrators and CNA Insurance Companies. She has a background in health care as a Registered Nurse at Glenbrook Hospital in Glenview, IL and St. Joseph Hospital in Joliet, IL. She is experienced in a wide variety of managed care initiatives aimed at saving clients’ health care dollars. Mary Ann’s Fee Negotiation Program is used by AAG’s nationwide self-funded TPA clients as well as a growing number of non-AAG clients from small, medium and large employer groups. Mary Ann earned her R.N. from St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Evanston, IL, and her bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Leadership from National Louis University in Evanston, IL.

Jeff Kolker (Speaker)
Vice President, Employee Benefits, GCG Financial, Inc.

Jeff is responsible for the supervision of the employee benefits resource team, product review and the sale of new and renewal employee benefit programs. Jeff received his degree in accounting at the University of Denver and has over 18 years experience in the insurance/benefits industry. Jeff has served on a variety of insurance carrier advisory boards, including Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Aetna, Humana and United Healthcare and is recognized nationally as a Preferred Broker and Employee Benefit Consultant. Jeff has helped GCG place more new groups with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois than any other broker in the Chicago land marketplace. He has also had significant experience in designing and implementing consumer driven health plans as recently mentioned in the Chicago Tribune.

David Corso (Speaker)

David is focused on AAG’s biggest asset, its relationships with brokers & consultants. His mission is to add high value to partnerships in a market that is everchanging due to consolidation, legislative changes and technological innovation. AAG, the largest independent TPA in the U.S., distributes an integrated suite of products and services for groups ranging from 50-125,000 members. David has 16 years of experience in healthcare sales, including helping run two TPAs. He is responsible for P&L and distribution strategy; and his expertise includes policy & benefit design, claim financing, vendor management, analytical analysis and patient advocacy strategy. David also has 5 years of experience in international product marketing and ran pricing, marketing & U.S. Commerce compliance for goods sold in North America and sourced from 13 foreign countries. He received a BA from the University of Illinois-Urbana and is completing an MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
