With breaches every day taking down CEOs, companies, and customer trust, new data security requirements are changing the way business is done. Every company has to have a better understanding of what data security means, the latest trends, important regulations, and the risks. Join the Booth Alumni Club of the Bay Area, the UChicago Alumni Law Society, and the University of Chicago Military Affinity Group for a round table discussion on developments in data security, what it means for businesses, the risks of data breaches, and how to take advantage of this growing sector.

Panelists will include entrepreneurs, investors, attorneys, and practitioners.

Speaker Profiles

Darin Sands (Moderator)
Shareholder, Lane Powell PC

Darin Sands is a litigator whose practice focuses on data security, privacy, antitrust and the resolution of other complex commercial disputes. Mr. Sands represents clients in a wide range of matters, including data breach and privacy litigation, international antitrust investigations and litigation, class actions, claims involving breach of contract and fiduciary duties, and counseling related to using technology to more efficiently achieve legal objectives. He currently represents numerous companies in ongoing data breach litigation and data breach response preparation efforts. He also frequently counsels clients on privacy-related legal challenges. Mr. Sands is the Co-chair of the Lane Powell's Privacy and Data Security Practice Group and Co-chair of the Electronic Discovery, Technology and Strategy Practice Group.

Alexander Bean (Speaker)
Corporate Counsel, Prosper Marketplace

Alexander Bean is a Corporate Counsel at Prosper Marketplace focusing on privacy, data security, and consumer finance law. Prior to joining Prosper, Mr. Bean practiced law at the Los Angeles based law firm Gibson Dunn & Crutcher and New York based Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton. Mr. Bean holds a B.A. from Georgetown University and a J.D. from Stanford University Law School, where he served as Editor-in-Chief of the Stanford Journal of International Law.

Sanjit Dang (Speaker)
Investment Director, Intel Capital

Sanjit is an Investment Director at Intel Capital. He drives investments across Consumer and Enterprise sectors in various domains like Security, Machine Learning, eCommerce, etc. He has also driven several investments in Big Data, IoT and Cloud Computing. Sanjit has over a decade of Exec leadership experience in Product Design, Business Development and Strategy across several domains: Big Data, Natural Language Processing, 3D Camera/Apps, Supply-Chain Analytics and Flash Memory. He has managed $2Bill/year accounts and executed >30 partnership deals in $100M-$2Bill range. Always ahead of the curve, Sanjit worked on Big Data Analytics before industry created the term 'Big Data'. Similarly, he launched 2 online courses during grad school in 1999 and published iconic papers on learnings, way before the MOOC revolution started.

Ajit Sancheti (Speaker)
CEO, Preempt Security

Ajit Sancheti is co-founder and CEO of Preempt Security, an enterprise security software addressing the challenges of enterprise breaches through analysis of User behavior, a leading indicator of compromise. Previously, he co-founded Mu Dynamics (acquired by Spirent Communications) and performed held various management roles. Before Mu Dynamics, Ajit was part of the Corporate Development Group at Juniper Networks and an integral member of the team that developed the industry's first Intrusion Detection and Prevention system at OneSecure (acquired by NetScreen). Prior to OneSecure, he spent 7 years at Western Digital, holding various engineering and management positions. He owns several U.S. patents on networking and security, in addition to patents in acoustics and vibration technologies. Ajit earned his M.S. in Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, and his MBA from INSEAD, France.
