Event Details

The annual growth rate in health care spending per person is lower than it has been in years. but have we solved our health care spending problem? Or will history repeat itself with health care spending growing faster than the growth rate in GDP? In the first of the Chicago Economics Society speaker series in the San Francisco/Bay Area, economist Lawrence Wu will discuss the economic factors that are behind the rise in health care costs and the role of competition and innovation in controlling those costs in the future.

Speaker Profiles

Lawrence Wu (Speaker)
PhD'92

Dr. Wu is the President of NERA Economic Consulting, a leading global provider of economic advice and analysis in business, legal, and regulatory matters. His expertise is in the economics of antitrust, and intellectual property, and he is particularly well known for his work in the area of health care competition. Before joining NERA, he was a staff economist at the U.S. Federal Trade Commission. Dr. Wu earned his PhD from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and his B.A. from Stanford University.
