"Never Pay the First Bill" is a primer for individuals and employers who want to protect themselves and the people they care about from the outrageous costs of health care.
On March 25, Marshall Allen shared the story of Gabby and an overview of his upcoming book, "Never Pay the First Bill," to an attentive University of Chicago audience – we received 10 times the number of pre-event questions submitted for typical University of Chicago alumni events.

Webinar #2, "How to Save Money on Health Care Costs" will continue the conversation about helping consumers and employers push back against overbilling, price gouging, insurance denials, unnecessary care and more. Drawing on 15 years of investigating the health care industry, Marshall Allen is going to share more stories about how consumers and employers have successfully challenged the status quo. Along with sharing his stories, Marshall will also discuss ten ways consumers and employers can pursue to save money on health care, i.e., how to analyze medical bills, obtain pricing information prior to getting treatment, find low-cost & high-quality providers, minimize prescription drug costs, etc.
We anticipate another lively debate given the subject of discussion and diverse perspectives of attendees: caregivers, patients, business executives, insurance users and payors, policymakers, health care providers and more. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their own stories and debate the practical application of Marshall Allen's recommended strategies.

Marshall Allen is a reporter for ProPublica, where he covers the health care industry. He is a Pulitzer Prize finalist and recipient of the Harvard Kennedy School's Goldsmith Prize for Investigative Reporting. He teaches investigative reporting at the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at the City University of New York, and has spoken at various conferences across the country.
