Remember the words of Ron Burt: "you must put yourself at risk of productive accidents". If you don't come to these events, those accidental conversations that result in job or business opportunities will not happen.
Anecdote: At the Marvin Zonis event, an AXP5 who never attends these events, decided to show up. He had an accidental conversation with an AXP2, who was returning to the US and looking for a successor. He had been looking for a new job for quite some time. 3 days later he had an offer and he is now the CTO of a small tech/media company. He is now a believer in "networking".
