John Ellis CBE FRS (BA Cambridge 1967, PhD Cambridge 1971) is a theoretical physicist who has spent most of his career at CERN. He is currently Clerk Maxwell Professor at King's College, London.
Professor Ellis has made important contributions to particle physics, astrophysics, cosmology and quantum gravity. He is a devoted champion of the future of particle physics around the world, and his outreach activities are well known. Professor Ellis will talk on gravitational waves, recently observed for the first time in a stunning example of the scientific method at its best. A Nobel Prize-in-waiting?
