The Chicago Booth Alumni Club of Thailand is pleased to present an exciting event with Marc Saxer, Resident Director of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Thailand.
Event Details
Corruption is the abuse of power, and is a symptom of the disparity of rights and opportunities in society. Corruption, cronyism and clientelism are not only individual moral failures, but symptoms of an outdated political system producing social disparity.
Thus, fighting corruption in a transformation society such as ours means that the political system needs to be upgraded to a legal-rational order, with merit-based, impersonal institutions and effective rule of law. Fighting corruption means holding the powerful accountable. This fight can be won only by the political muscle of a broad societal coalition of groups with diverging interests and opposing beliefs and must be part of the greater struggle between those who benefit from the status quo and those seeking democratic change (based on an article by Mr. Saxer).
This event will be followed by our Annual General Meeting 2014 where we will announce the new alumni club committee following the recent call for leadership.

Speaker Profiles
Marc Saxer (Speaker)
Resident Director, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung Thailand
Mr. Saxer's work focuses on governance mechanisms and democracy assistance, and he has studied many transformation societies, including Thailand. Prior to coming to Bangkok, he worked for FES in Berlin and Transparency International in Pakistan. He earned a Master of Law degree from Hamburg University and a Master in Political Science degree from Free University of Berlin.
Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung is a political legacy of Friedrich Ebert, Germany's first democratically-elected president. It promotes democracy, sustainable development, and international understanding.
