Chicago Booth alumni are cordially invite to the MIT Club of France to dinner and conference with Jean-Francois Cirelli, Chairman for BlackRock in France, Belgium and Luxembourg, Former Vice-Chairman and COO of GDF-SUEZ.

Jean-François Cirelli will discuss with us on World energy challenges and financing solutions of economic growth through asset and infrastructure investment, as well as share his experience at GDF Suez and his new missions at the largest investment firm.


The conference will be conducted in French.

Jean-Francois Cirelli (Speaker)
Chairman, BlackRock

Jean-Francois Cirelli, born in July 1958, held management positions at the Treasury department of the Ministry of Economy and Finance from 1985 to 1995 before becoming a technical advisor to the French President from 1995 to 1997, then economic advisor from 1997 to 2002.
In 2002, he was appointed Deputy Director of Staff to Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, responsible for economic, industrial and social affairs.

In 2004, Jean-Francois was nominated Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Gaz de France at the moment of its transformation from public to private enterprise; he led the public offering of the company's capital and listing on the stock exchange.

From 2007, he led the negotiations on behalf of GDF for the merger with Suez in view of creating one of the leading energy providers in the world. Upon completion of the merger in 2008, he was nominated on 22 July as Vice-Chairman, Chief Operating Officer of the new group GDF SUEZ. A position he held until 2014. He has an extensive knowledge of the gas industry (former Chairman of Eurogas) and the power industry both regulated and merchant. He was also deeply involved in European regulatory changes.

Since 2009, he has been on the board of Vallourec, a world leader in premium tubular solutions primarily serving the energy markets (oil and gas, powergen). Past non-executive board memberships include Eurogas (2010-2014) ; Atos (2008-2009); Suez Environment (2008-2014) and Neuf Cegetel (2006-2008).

In 2015, he joined Advent International and McKinsey & Company as Senior Advisor.
On 4th January 2016, Jean-Francois Cirelli joined BlackRock as Chairman and Senior Adviser for BlackRock in France, Belgium and Luxembourg where he will play a key role in developing and executing long-term business strategy in this newly formed region.

Jean-François, is a graduate of the Institut d'Etudes Politiques de Paris and the Ecole Nationale d'Administration; he also has a law degree.
Jean-François Cirelli is married and the father of two children.
He is a « Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur » & « Officier dans l'Ordre National du Mérite ».
