Georges Anthoon (Speaker)
Executive Human Resources Director, AXA

Georges Anthoon studied Law (Catholic University of Leuven – 1978) and Marketing (St.Louis – Brussels – 1984/1986). From 1978 until 1981, he was a legal advisor (in constitutional law) in several ministerial cabinets in addition to being employed at SEVI. Later, Anthoons practiced law at the Bar and lectured in constitutional law at the University of Brussels. In 1986, he changed careers and became HR Manager for Shell Research, Coopers & Lybrand, Group AIB-Vinçotte and Belgacom. While at Belgacom, he was responsible for the biggest HR change project in Belgian history: the People, Teams & Skills ’98 whose goal was to retrain 7000 people in 18 months in new telecom jobs, at the same time as a corporate downsize of 6000 people. In April 1999, he joined AXA Belgium (Insurance) and AXA Bank as Executive Director of Human Resources, Internal Communication and Building & Facilities. Georges was responsible for the mergers with Royale Belge, Ippa, Anhyp and Winterthur. In 2001, he was elected by his HR peers as “HR Manager of the Year”. For more than ten years, Georges has been lecturing in several MBA and Masters Programs (Vlerick Ghendt, Leuven University, University of Antwerp Management School, Tias Nimbas University in the Netherlands) on the following themes: strategic HR Management, Strategic Reward Management, Internal Communication and Change Management.
