The dinner debate, hosted by the MIT Alumni Club of France, will be held at Les Salons de la Maison des Arts et Métiers and will focus on Energy and Geopolitics.
Pascal Colombani, one of the leading experts in the field of energy transition, will comment on the current tectonic changes in the technological, political and environmental spheres and their implications on energy sources. He will present his views on energy transition and how it is implemented across the world. He will also share his perspective on the geopolitical dimension of these evolutions and the likely consequences on the security of our energy supply.

Pascal Colombani (Speaker)
Chairman of the Board of Directors, Valeo
Dr. Pascal Colombani is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Valeo and is a member of the Boards of Directors of Alstom, Energy Solutions, and Technip. A member of the French Academy of Technology, Dr. Colombani is also Senior Advisor for high technology and energy with A.T. Kearney.
Dr. Colombani graduated in 1969 from Ecole Normale Supérieure (Saint-Cloud) and holds a doctorate in physics from the University of Paris XI. He began his career as a research scientist at the National Center for Scientific Research in France and at the Lawrence Berkeley Laboratory in California. From 1978 to 1998, he worked for Schlumberger, the oilfield services company, in various assignments in the United States, Europe and Japan, presiding over the Japanese subsidiary Schlumberger KK in Tokyo from 1995 to 1998, when were also initiated the implantation of R&D facilities in China. Director of Technology at the French Ministry of Research and Technology from 1998 to 1999, Dr. Colombani was overseeing the strategy and operations of most French applied research establishments. He was also involved in the development of financial instruments for the promotion of high technology SMEs, and in the promotion of the concept of clusters of competitiveness.
Dr. Colombani was appointed Chairman and CEO of the French Atomic Energy Commission (CEA) in 1999, when were started several important new programs in nuclear and other energy sources, and diversification towards nan-materials and life sciences. He created the financial instruments needed to fund the decommissioning of obsolete nuclear installations, and initiated the restructuring of the CEA industrial subsidiaries into Areva, of which he chaired the Supervisory Board from 2001 to 2003.
Over the last few years, Dr. Colombani has been a member of the Boards of Rhodia, British Energy, France Telecom, EDF and numerous research establishments. Dr. Colombani is an officer of the Legion of Honor and an officer of the Order of Merit.
