Bob Benson (Speaker), Laird Norton Tyee

Bob Benson is the Chief Investment Officer at Laird Norton Tyee. He determines the firm's investment strategy, directs the manager selection process and works in partnership with the client services team to deliver investment solutions that meet clients' unique needs. He leads a team of analysts and strategists on the Investment Research team.

Bob has 20 years of experience in the financial industry primarily in investment strategy, asset allocation and risk management. He most recently served as a Senior Consultant with Russell Investment's U.S. Consulting group. He also was Director of Global Asset Allocation Strategies at Banc of America Capital Management. At UBS Global Asset Management, where he worked for more than 10 years, he was Director of Asset Allocation and Risk Management.

Bob's undergraduate degree is from the University of Wisconsin – LaCrosse and his MBA is from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He received his CFA designation in 1997.

He is a member of the CFA Institute as well as the CFA Society of Seattle. Bob has served on the boards of both start-up firms and non-profit organizations. He also frequently presents at investment industry conferences and is often quoted in financial news publications.

Erik Ogard is a founding and managing member of Madison Park. Erik's investment career began in 1991 after completing graduate school. His investment experience has ranged across research, sales, portfolio management, and senior management roles.

Most recently, Erik was Director of Multi Strategy Solutions at Russell Investments where he began working in 1995. While at Russell, Erik held numerous positions including research analyst, portfolio manager, and Director of Hedge Fund Research. While at Russell, Erik was responsible for managing fiduciary assets in excess of seven billion dollars. Prior to Russell, Erik worked at CTC Consulting, Piper Jaffray, and NIKE, Inc. Erik has spoken at several industry conferences on a broad range of investment topics and has appeared regularly in the national media to share his views on the economy and capital markets.

In addition to overall management responsibilities at Madison Park, Erik's daily focus lies in client portfolio management and business development activities. He also helps formulate the firm's research agenda.

Erik is a holder of the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) credential. He received his MBA from Willamette University and his BA from Pacific Lutheran University. Erik has served as a member of the board of directors of Operation of Hope since 2011. He also coaches youth soccer in Gig Harbor, where he lives with his wife, Diane, and his three children Matt, Grant, and Abby.

Tom Owens (Speaker)

Tom began his career in the securities industry at Shearson Lehman Brothers in 1990 and spent a decade with Prudential Securities before joining UBS as a Senior Vice President in 2003. During his 20 years in investment management, he has focused on developing business that provides comprehensive wealth management solutions for high net worth individuals, families, trusts, and foundations. He is also a co-founder of Garde Capital.


A native of Seattle, Tom graduated from Garfield High School, and Pomona College in Claremont California. His interests outside the office include playing music, tennis, reading, cooking, and alpine skiing, all of which he enjoys doing with his wife and three sons
