Prof. Frans Timmermans, Former Dutch Secretary of State
“America is more free than Europe”

These are historic times just after the formation of a new Dutch government with a clearly different signature as the governments since World War II and in times of intense debates on civil rights, freedom of speech and freedom of religion on both sides of the Atlantic. This often leads to heated debates and parties seem to be diametrically opposite to each other.

What are indeed our basic rights and our basic duties? What is good citizenship? What are essential western values which we should never give up?

We are fortunate enough to have the former Dutch Secretary of State giving the Thanksgiving Fulbright dinner address 2010, enlightening us on these issues.
