Consul General Robert Chatterton Dickson will assess the UK's policies of fiscal consolidation and financial stability and how they impact the private sector. In response to the worldwide economic meltdown, the United Kingdom embarked on a program of austerity. This discussion will cover the long term considerations, in particular, deficit reduction, the balance between cutting spending and raising revenue, the UK's continued AAA rating and the Eurozone crisis. He will also provide insights on the policies' objectives to promote growth and London's role as the main financial centre in Europe as part of that strategy.

Robert Chatterton Dickson took up the post of British Consul General, Chicago on 26 July 2010.
Previously, Robert was Joint Head of the Counter Terrorism Department at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London. As Joint Head he shared the leadership of a team of over 80 staff responsible for the FCO contribution to counter terrorism policy and operations.
From 2004 to 2007 he served as British Ambassador to the Republic of Macedonia. Earlier diplomatic experience included working on Iraq, NATO and UN peacekeeping in London, and postings to the British Embassies in Manila and Washington. Before joining the FCO he worked as an analyst and UK and international investment manager for Morgan Grenfell & Co, a merchant bank in the City of London.
Robert is married to Teresa Albor, an artist who was born in the US. They have daughters aged 14 and 12 and two grown children from Teresa's first marriage.
