Professor Zingales' research spans corporate governance to financial development, political economy to the economic effects of culture. He co-developed the Financial Trust Index, which is designed to monitor the level of trust that Americans have in their financial system.

Professor Zingales hosts the podcast Capitalisn't, alongside Vanity Fair contributing editor, Bethany McLean. They ask questions such as, "Is capitalism the engine of destruction or the engine of prosperity?" On this podcast, McLean and Zingales talk about the ways capitalism is—or more often isn't—working in our world today.
Zingales received a bachelor's degree in economics summa cum laude from Universita Bocconi in Italy in 1987 and a PhD in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1992. He joined the Chicago Booth faculty in 1992.
