Michael Porter's Five competitive Forces framework, originally published in 1979, today remains the most extensively used strategic framework. In fact Larry Summers has often referred to it as he charters a course for the country. The robust nature of the framework, however, has not always proven easy to execute. The ongoing sputtering of the economy and some of our recent discussions on disruptive forces led us to seek out a framework, and Porter's work was the logical choice. In 2008, Porter published a re-affirmation of his seminal 1979 article and added some interesting new insights and cases.

Join our monthly Strategic Management Practices Issues Group discussion, Friday morning, July 16th, from 7:30 - 8:45 AM downtown, as we ponder these questions: Why Do Good Managers Set Bad Strategies? Why, in spite of new challenges and economic disruptions are Porter's five forces perennially relevant? Our host provides coffee, but we count on you to bring the requisite conversational energy. Further details, including articles we will use as the basis of the discussion will be posted on the registration page. We look forward to seeing you on the 16th!
