From 2001 to 2003, Dr. Kroszner was a member of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers (CEA). He was involved in formulating policy on a wide range of issues, including responses to corporate governance scandals, government-sponsored enterprise reform, pension reform, terrorism risk insurance, tax reform, currency crisis management, sovereign debt restructuring, the role of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), and international trade and development.
Since 1990, Dr. Kroszner has taught at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business. Dr. Kroszner was Director of the George J. Stigler Center for the Study of the Economy and the State. He served as editor of the Journal of Law & Economics and has been associate editor of a number of other academic and policy journals. He was a member of the board of directors at the National Association for Business Economics and the Financial Management Association.
Dr. Kroszner serves as the Chair of the Financial Research Advisory Committee of the Office of Financial Research of the U.S. Treasury. He is a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago’s Academic Advisory Council and of the board of advisors of the Paulson Institute. In addition, he is a Research Associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research. He is member of the board of trustees of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and a member of the board of directors of the Renaissance Society.
Dr. Kroszner has been a visiting scholar at the Securities and Exchange Commission, the IMF, the Stockholm School of Economics, the Stockholm University, the Free University of Berlin, Germany, the London School of Economics, and the American Enterprise Institute. He was the John M. Olin Visiting Fellow in Law and Economics at the University of Chicago Law School the Bertil Danielson Visiting Professor of Banking and Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics, and the SK Chaired Visiting Professor at Yonsei University, Seoul, Korea.
His research interests include regulation of financial institutions, international financial crises, the Great Depression, monetary economics, corporate governance, debt restructuring and bankruptcy, and political economy. His paper on managerial stock ownership (with Clifford Holderness and Dennis Sheehan) won the Brattle Prize for best corporate finance paper in the Journal of Finance. His book co-authored with Nobel laureate Robert J. Shiller, Reforming U.S. Financial Markets: Reflections Before and Beyond Dodd-Frank (MIT Press) appeared on the Washington Post’s Book World political best sellers list.
Dr. Kroszner is a frequent commentator in the international media. He provides advice to financial institutions, government organizations, and central banks throughout the world.
Dr. Kroszner received a Sc.B. (magna cum laude) in applied mathematics-economics (honors) from Brown University in 1984 and an M.A. (1987) and Ph.D. (1990), both in economics, from Harvard University.
Christian Leuz is the Charles F. Pohl Distinguished Service Professor of Accounting and Finance at the University of Chicago's Booth School of Business. He is a Research Associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, a Research Fellow at the Center for Economic Policy Research and Leibniz Institute SAFE, a Fellow at the European Corporate Governance Institute, Goethe Universität Frankfurt's Center for Financial Studies, and the CESifo Research Network. He is a co-organizer and a member of the IGM’s European Economic Experts Panel. He studies the role of disclosure and transparency in capital markets and other settings; the economic effects of regulation; international accounting; corporate governance and corporate financing. His work has been published in many top academic journals including Science, Journal of Finance, Journal of Accounting Research, Journal of Financial Economics, Journal of Accounting & Economics, and Review of Financial Studies. He has received several awards and honors, including the 2016 and the 2014 Distinguished Contribution to the Accounting Literature Awards, a Humboldt Research Award in 2012, as well as the 2011 Wildman Medal Award. He is recognized as a “Highly Cited Researcher" by Thomson Reuters and was included in their list of “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds” five years in a row (from 2014 to 2018). Professor Leuz is an editor for the Journal of Accounting Research and has served on many editorial boards, including the Journal of Accounting & Economics, The Accounting Review, the Journal of Business, Finance and Accounting, and the Review of Accounting Studies.
Born in Germany, Professor Leuz earned his doctoral degree and Habilitation at the Goethe University Frankfurt in Germany. Prior to this position, he was the Harold Stott Term Assistant Professor in Accounting at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a visiting doctoral fellow at the Simon School of Business, University of Rochester.
He works with Fortune 50 companies, family businesses and start-ups in the areas of innovation and strategy. He has worked with a broad array of companies including Abbott Labs, American Express, Danaher, Dover, ETS, Harley-Davidson, Hewlett-Packard, Kimberly-Clark, McDonalds, PepsiCo, State Farm and Yum! Brands.
Greg was an alderman in the City of West Chicago, serving on the infrastructure, public safety and development committees.
Greg has lectured nationally and internationally on topics related to strategy, creating customers, and innovation. He earned a bachelor's degree from Wheaton College in philosophy and an MDiv from Harvard University.
Charles Hadlock studies corporate governance, mergers and acquisitions, financial constraints, and managerial labor markets. His research has appeared in several leading journals in finance, economics, and accounting. He was the winner of the 1997 Merton Miller Prize awarded by the Journal of Business and the 2011 and 2014 Michael Brennan Prize awarded by the Review of Financial Studies.
Hadlock has taught at the University of Florida, the University of Illinois, the University Michigan, and the University of Virginia. In 2008 he was nominated for the Ross School of Business MBA teaching excellence award. Hadlock is currently the Frederick S. Addy Distinguished Professor of Finance at the Eli Broad Graduate School of Management at Michigan State University where he has won the Executive MBA Teaching Award on six different occasions.
Hadlock earned his PhD in Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1994 and his BA (with highest honors and highest distinction) from the University of Michigan in 1989 with concentrations in economics and mathematics.
John Burrows is senior lecturer in leadership at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy and an associate fellow at Oxford University’s Saïd Business School. He also teaches healthcare leadership in a newly launched double masters degree program in health policy taught jointly by the University of Chicago and the London School of Economics & Political Science. Previously, he was an adjunct professor at the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business.
Before entering academia, John’s career spanned the public, private, and NGO sectors. He originally came to the USA from the UK to volunteer at the Southern Center for Human Rights and the Mississippi Capital Defense Resource Project. During college he interned with other anti-death penalty groups and also at the Cato Institute, a think tank in Washington, DC. Later he joined Arthur Andersen’s Office of Government Service (OGS) and led engagements with the U.S. Department of Justice (DoJ) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).
John later switched into the private sector, where he was a partner with the consulting firm Accenture and held senior roles in sales and marketing at enterprise software companies including Siebel and Oracle. He negotiated, sold, managed, and implemented complex, multi-national, multi-million dollar projects around the globe, and gained experience building and growing operations in the UK, USA, and Japan, grappling with all that entails: BD, IJVs, M&A, etc. During his PhD studies John served as an advisor for Houses for Africa, a social enterprise firm based in Cape Town, South Africa.
At the University of Chicago and Oxford, John teaches leadership, negotiations, strategy, decision-making, and organizational psychology to MPP, MBA, and MA students, and to senior executives in open enrollment and custom executive-education programs. Custom executive education clients of John's include AbbVie, Alfa, American College of Surgeons, American Orthopaedic Association, Aon, BBVA, Brainlab, Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business (CKGSB), Civil Service Bureau of Hong Kong, Edelman, Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), Kiewit, Kuwait University College of Business Administration, Merrill Lynch, State Farm, Syngenta, Trelleborg, and Workiva.
For three years now, John has also taught each cohort of the University of Chicago's International Innovation Corp (IIC) Fellows Program. The IIC recruits top-performing graduates of leading host-country universities and US based institutions and organizes them into teams of up to 3-5 Project Associates. Project Associates train for 5 weeks in skills required to translate their academic and professional knowledge into on-the-ground contributions. The IIC embeds each team within a government, non-profit, or foundation office in India or Brazil to work on an innovative development project with a discrete, tractable scope for 1-3 year projects. Last year, John taught in the University of Chicago Data and Policy Summer Scholar Program which offers top global undergraduate students a 4-week experience with rigorous training on data analytics and public policy.
John is a sought-after speaker across industries but especially within healthcare. He has presented to the American College of Surgeons (ACS), including to their Board of Regents, and delivered a grand rounds lecture to the University of Chicago’s Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. John has also delivered keynote speeches for the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA) and the Association of Program Directors in Surgery (APDS).
John currently serves on the advisory board of Profitable Ideas Exchange (PIE), which builds communities of senior executive to tackle many of the world’s greatest challenges, and consults with clients across industries and geographies.
John received a Ph.D. and M.B.A. from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and an A.B. from Vassar College.

Previously, Susan ran the research-based high performance consulting subsidiary of Hudson Highland Group, Inc., a leading international professional staffing and talent management solutions firm.

Susan has been an Adjunct Professor of Management at the University of Chicago Booth Graduate School of Business. She has been a guest lecturer at INSEAD business school in Fontainebleau, France, Kellogg Graduate School of Management and Instituto Empressa in Madrid. She also has taught at General Electric’s Crotonville Corporate Training Center.
She is the author of Contagious Success (Portfolio, 2004), a dynamic management book that revealed a global standard for high performance. Contagious Success was voted Fast Company’s Readers’ Choice selection in January 2005. Additionally, Susan authored two more prominent business books: Communicoding (Fine, 1990; Penguin USA, 1991) and Evolutionary Leadership (Simon & Schuster, 2001; Fireside, 2002).
She has been a guest on numerous local and national television and radio news programs and has been quoted extensively in the business press, including The Wall Street Journal, CNBC, BBC, USA Today and Bloomberg.
