Since the passage of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act in 1977, the taking of bribes and other unethical actions have ensnarled both US and foreign firms. In recent years, the Federal government has stepped up its enforcement action and foreign companies, for example, Siemens and ABB, have run afoul. What should companies do to avert criminal prosecution and damage to the brand? Gregory Thiess, an expert on ethics and compliance, presents case studies on corruption and assesses their consequences for regulating behavior regarding the conduct of international business.
