American City Business Journals

A

ACBJ includes digital replicas of weekly newspapers and yearly books of lists, as well as full website access for local business newspapers in 40 US cities. The books of lists rank top organizations within a given industry and are helpful for creating target lists. Chicago, New York, and Los Angeles books of lists are not available through this database; please view the print copies in the CRC or in your local public library.

Research steps

The American City Business Journals homepage defaults to Milwaukee coverage. Find your target city in the Select Another Publication dropdown, then click Digital Book of Lists or any heading of interest.

Business Source - Alumni Edition

A

Business Source includes full-text access to more than 1,300 scholarly business journals. Also includes country economic reports, company profiles, and backfiles of many journals. MarketLine Company and Industry Reports are particularly helpful, as are SWOT analysis reports for specific companies.

From the search page of Business Source - Alumni Edition, click on Company Profile and use the keyword search box to search for a specific company.

Capital IQ

A

Capital IQ is a company and transaction research database with good coverage of finance-related companies as well as equities and markets. Advanced screening allows you to search for companies using criteria such as size, office locations, keywords, and education background of executives (e.g., Booth alumni). Profiles include short company descriptions, contact information, and in-depth financial information.

Access

Access to Capital IQ is always available to alumni in the Fisher Career Resource Center, where a member of our staff can log you in. We have access to a limited number of remote seats for Capital IQ for alumni who are job seeking or are in the process of a career transition. Community Directory

A

Use the Directory find Booth alumni at a specific company or within a geographic location. While the contact information and alumni details (such as cohort, club activities, etc.) can be incredibly useful for networking, cross-reference current job titles with LinkedIn or another directory for the most accurate information.

Electronic Resources for Alumni

A

University of Chicago Libraries provide remote access to a few alumni versions of research article databases. TheElectronic Resources for Alumniguide from the Library includes details on how to access with your CNET ID and password and links to EBSCO - Business Source - Alumni Edition and Articles Plus - Alumni Edition.

Employment Reports

A

The Full-Time Employment Report Students tab shows firms where Full-Time students interned and landed their full-time jobs and summer internships over the last several years. Use the dropdown menu to search by function, industry, or company name. The results include firm name, location, and student name, which links to an email address.

The Evening MBA and Weekend MBA Employment Report includes a spreadsheet called “Student Information for Networking Purposes”. The spreadsheet includes Evening and Weekend MBA student employment information at the time of graduation and can be searched or sorted by name, company, function, and industry. Once you’ve identified relevant contacts, use the Community Directory to find email addresses.

A

Expatica provides information for expatriates living in, working in, or moving to the Netherlands, Germany, France, or Belgium.

Going Global

A

Going Global country guides are great resources for learning about trends within a specific country if you are interested in working in a country that would be new to you. Each country guide offers information including job search resources and guidelines, employment trends, international issues, and work authorization issues, as well as general cultural practices.

GTS

A

View past and present job postings targeting Booth students and alumni. Use the Advanced Search to filter job postings by organization industry, function, keyword, job location, etc. Read through job descriptions related to the function or industry you are targeting to review the day-to-day responsibilities and skills and experiences necessary for specific roles. View historical postings in addition to current openings to broaden the pool of results you survey.

GTS→ Job Postings → Advanced Search. From the results screen, the Show button gives you the option to view expired jobs.

LinkedIn Alumni Tool

A

Search for Booth students and alumni by where they live and where they work, and use the keyword search to find profiles that mention real estate or other keywords specific to your search. Use the Attended dropdown to expand out to all years and click on Include people with no dates to expand the pool of alumni you’re searching in. You can also use the Change school dropdown to search for alumni of other institutions you have attended. To broaden your search, try LinkedIn Advanced Search to find all contacts at an organization, industry, or geography. Unfortunately, there’s no export feature.

D&B Hoovers (One Source)

A

D&B Hoovers (One Source) profiles over 20 million public and private companies and can include SWOT analyses, financial reports, and analyst reports for larger companies. Screening capabilities allow you to search for companies based on location, industry and size.

Access

Access to D&B Hoovers (One Source) is always available onsite in the Fisher CRC. Remote access is available on a limited basis to alumni who are job seeking or in the process of a career transition. Contact boothworks@chicagobooth.edu for information about accessing D&B Hoovers (One Source).

Preqin is a private equity and venture capital directory and performance database.
