University of Chicago Crime and Education Labs
Monica Bhatt is the research director for the University of Chicago Crime and Education Labs where she oversees a portfolio of applied research projects related to reducing crime and improving academic and life outcomes for young people in Chicago.
Prior to coming to University of Chicago, she worked as a researcher at the American Institutes for Research where she led projects related to building capacity within educational systems and evaluating policy and programs at the local, state, national, and international levels.
Her academic interests include fostering the development of research-practice partnerships and using experimental and quasi-experimental designs to evaluate high school reform strategies, systemic approaches to reduce disparities in educational attainment and achievement, and students’ transitions to postsecondary opportunities. Bhatt is a former Fulbright Scholar and earned a PhD in Education Policy from the University of Michigan and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Public Policy from Vanderbilt University.
