MEET THE WINNERS

Alex Upton

Alex Upton is a second-year MBA student at Booth, where he takes part in several civic leadership and nonprofit business programs.

Upton is a member of Booth’s Net Impact student group, this year serving as co-chair of the group’s Board Fellows program, and has participated in and led the group's trips to the annual Net Impact Conference. Prior to Booth, Upton worked in risk management at Kroll and Goldman Sachs.

"There are so many students at Booth committed to so many different social impact issues," Upton said. "It is an honor to be picked from among so many deserving candidates."

Charles Cole

Charles Cole is a second-year MBA student at Booth, where he engages in various impact investing programs. Cole was part of the Booth team that earned second place at the 11th annual Invest for Impact Competition in February 2018 at the University of North Carolina. Prior to Booth, Cole cofounded a company that invested private capital to rehabilitate vacant and blighted apartments as housing for low- and moderate-income families. Earlier in his career, Cole was also an associate consultant at Bain & Company in Chicago.

"I have been thoroughly impressed by the resources Booth has dedicated to supporting students interested in pursuing careers related to social impact," Cole said. "This scholarship is one those many investments being made in students, and I am honored to be a recipient."
