Are we actually making a difference? That’s the question being asked by social sector organizations worldwide. It was also at the heart of a thought-provoking panel discussion at Chicago Booth’s London campus in September, hosted by the Rustandy Center, External Relations, and Alumni Relations. It was the center’s first visit to London following a $20 million gift from alumnus Tandean Rustandy, ’07 (AXP-6). The panel was moderated by Rob Gertner, John Edwardson Faculty Director of the Rustandy Center and Joel F. Gemunder Professor of Strategy. Panelists included Marianne Bertrand, faculty codirector at the Rustandy Center and Chris P. Dialynas Distinguished Service Professor of Economics; Katherine Mathieson, chief executive of the British Science Association; and Julia Grant, CEO of Pro Bono Economics.

Here, the speakers discuss the value of social impact measurement in seeking funding, proving an organization’s model, and more.
