The Center for Applied Artificial Intelligence and Professor Sendhil Mullainathan are recruiting visual design interns to help design online user experiences. We want to build interactive storytelling pages that communicate our research to a broad audience, using gamification and other engaging elements to bring our projects to life. Our projects apply cutting edge machine learning tools to real world problems like reducing the discrimination against Black patients in healthcare algorithms, and explaining drivers of bias in the US judicial system. This role will help us achieve the Center’s mission to educate the public on societal issues related to AI and to bring research insights from the lab into the real world.

The successful candidate will work with our research team of economists, data scientists, and web developers on a project related to machine vision and human judgment. They will help design and implement a public-facing web page that explains the research and its significance.

The project is expected to begin immediately and last throughout Autumn Quarter. There is the possibility of continuing on a second project through Winter Quarter.

Responsibilities include:

  • Designing accessible, engaging and beautiful web applications for a public audience
  • Producing mockups or wireframes to communicate your vision for the application
  • Communicating the motivation for your design to researchers
  • Collaborating with developers to implement your design
  • Working within the style and vision of the Center and Chicago Booth

Rate: $25/hr

Time Commitment: 5-10 hrs/week
