Lunch and Learns
The Volcker Alliance
In the short term, I want to continue to enhance my contribution in the nonprofit sector. Beyond that, I want to serve in a leadership role in the federal government as a member of the much-maligned bureaucracy, which (despite the justifiable lumps it has taken in recent years) is crucial to the well-being of the nation and the success of democracy.
Both my personal experience working in government and the nonprofit sector as well as the subject matter of my current work at the Volcker Alliance have demonstrated that too often mission-driven organizations lack strong management acumen and execution capability. It is my sense that the skills and mindset of MBAs—to diagnose challenges in concrete and measurable ways, develop a plan to move key metrics, and effectively manage time, people, and money to make progress—will be increasingly in demand as the challenges facing both sectors grow in scale and complexity in the decades ahead.
