Moderator -> EveryoneHello everyone! Thank you for joining us today. Our chat will begin promptly at 12:00 p.m. CDT. Feel free to begin submitting your questions now so we can start providing answers at noon.
Beth -> EveryoneThank you for joining us today! I'm Beth Daily, associate director and I'm available to answer your application-related questions.
Jay J -> EveryoneGood afternoon everyone! My name is Jay Jacobs and am an Asst. Director of Admissions and look forward to answering your questions.
Nico -> EveryoneThank you for joining us today! I am Nico Ricchiuto, admissions manager. I manage Information Sessions and assist with the Class Visit program. Please feel free to ask me any application related questions!
Kara -> EveryoneWelcome to today's live chat! I am Kara Northcutt, director of admissions for Booth's Evening MBA and Weekend MBA Programs. We look forward to answering your questions about Booth's dynamic community, flexible curriculum and the application process.
Nancy -> KaraThe evening and weekend MBA is it only for students in the U.S
Kara -> NancyNancy, generally, yes. We are unable to issue student visas for the Evening MBA and Weekend MBA programs. We have many "international" students who are in the US on a work visa.
Vicky -> NicoI'm planning a class visit over the summer, any tips or suggestions on what to do/see/ask while I'm there (in regards to the school and faculty). Thank you in advance for your help!
Nico -> VickyHi Vicky! You will be paired with a current student in the class who will be able answer questions you might have. I think the important thing to consider is visiting a class in the subject area you are most interested in. Also, feel free to visit more than one class to get a feel of the different offerings here at Booth.
sbell -> Jay JHi, tell me a little bit more about your diversity and inclusion initiatives and special support offered to minority students.
Jay J -> sbellsbell, we have a good number of diversity efforts. The most prominent is our African American MBA Association that brings on guest speakers, hosts events, and attends and presents at national conferences. This is a part time specific club. The FT program does have other affinity groups that are available to the PT students. Another really active organization is our Graduate Women in Business group. More information on our diversity organizations can be found at
Julio -> NicoWhen is the next application deadline for the evening MBA program?
Nico -> JulioHi Julio! The next application deadline is July 1. Find all future posted deadlines here:
prateekgupta -> Bethi am willing to do ms or mba through your college. i reside in india. pursuing engineering course to be completed by july 2015 but left with 2 backlogs whose result will come by feb of 2016. how can i aply for the programmes in your college
Beth -> prateekguptaAre you interested in Evening MBA or Weekend MBA program? The Evening MBA program admits four times a year and the Weekend MBA program admits twice a year (in spring and autumn). If you want to apply to the Evening MBA program, you would need to apply to the Summer quarter (deadline in April 2016, classes start June 2016) or later. Applications for all MBA programs can be found online: Please note the Evening MBA and Weekend MBA program cannot issue student visas. If you require a student visa, you will need to apply to the Full-Time MBA program.
Curtis -> Nicoa quick question. can GMAT be waived for evening class applicant?
Nico -> CurtisHi Curtis! We do require a valid GMAT or GRE score from all applicants.
sbell -> Jay JTell me more about what you offer for students who are interested in pursuing a career in social-entrepreneurship. I am aware of SEI but I am wondering how the entrepreneurship course work is structured. Do your courses heavily rely on group work or do you take a more individualized approach to meeting students' needs in the classroom?
Jay J -> sbellsbell, the SEI is a great resource that it sounds like you've already researched. We also have a really robust entrepreneurship curriculum. Almost all of our courses, in all concentrations, will have some sort of group work involved. You will have the ability to look at syllabi before you register for classes so that you know what you are signing up for.
LC -> NicoCan you please provide a timeline for the application process? When is the earliest an application can be submitted for Fall 2016?
Nico -> LCHi LC! Applications are posted 9 months before the deadline, and you can begin applying as soon as it is posted. The deadline for Evening Fall 2015 will be during the first week of July.
sbell -> Jay JTell me the difference in support for FT MBA students, PT, and Weekend students if there is a differences. I'm still trying to decide which program is right for me, though I am leaning more towards the FT program
Jay J -> sbellsbell, there are no differences in support for FT vs. EW students. We have a full staff to support the EW students at the Gleacher Center in downtown Chicago. Career services, academic services, etc. are all available and willing to help when our EW students are here!
cfnapier -> BethWhat international / study abroad opportunities are available to students in the part-time evening MBA program? Thank you.
Beth -> cfnapierWe offer short-term study abroad opportunities (2-3 weeks) for our students. If your schedule allows, you can also study abroad for a quarter at one of our 33 partner schools. For more information, please visit
Julio -> KaraI understand the value of an MBA for my career path. Despite this understanding, the cost of an evening or weekend MBA program concerns me. Do you provide financing, scholarships, fellowships, or other assistance for the weekend or evening MBA program?
Kara -> JulioJulio, Booth does not offer scholarships for our Evening MBA and Weekend MBA programs. However, you can pursue student loans (private and/or federal, depending on your situation). Most students use loans to help funds their MBA.
sbell -> NicoIs there an option to have a mix of online and in class courses or do you only offer in class courses?
Nico -> sbellHi sbell! All Booth courses are in-person.
sbell -> NicoI'm sure you have a select few full ride MBA students, tell me some of the qualification for your full ride scholarship opportunities, including GMAT scores, years of work experience, etc.
Nico -> sbellHi sbell. As a part-time program, we do not offer scholarships. All scholarships are reserved for full-time students.
Steve -> BethHi there! I am curious about the application due dates. It seems that there are quite a few options to apply and to matriculate. Is this similar to the "first round/second round" distinction seen in the full time application?
Beth -> SteveAll of our deadlines are final deadlines (versus different round deadlines for the same start quarter). You apply for the quarter you would like to start in. For example, if you would like to start the Evening MBA program in June, you would apply to the Summer quarter.
James -> NicoAre there any downsides to taking the GRE over the GMAT?
Nico -> JamesHi James. There is no preference in GRE or GMAT when it comes to the admissions process.
James -> Jay JHi, what are some of the major differences between the weekend MBA and full-time MBA besides the class schedule? I'm thinking workload, collaboration, face time with the profressors, time required to finish the program.
Jay J -> JamesJames, the only real difference between the the FT program and the EW programs is when the classes are held. Each class is available to all students regardless of home program you are enrolled in. All programs will yield the same MBA. And all programs will have the same faculty members teaching the same courses and same curriculum. You have to do your due diligence to determine which program is the best fit for you in terms of personal and professional obligations.
Adam_Meyer -> BethHow long does the admissions cycle take once you submit a completed application?
Beth -> Adam_MeyerWe will review your application and get a final decision within 4-6 weeks, but we always strive to make a decision sooner. Admissions interviews are scheduled and conducted after submitting your application. Evening MBA and Weekend MBA operate on rolling admissions.
James -> Jay JHow does the competition level differ between the full-time and weekend MBA programs?
Jay J -> JamesJames, same answer! The same courses, curriculum and faculty members teach in all of our programs. We do this to ensure the same rigor across all programs.
JustinM. -> NicoI'm interested in the evening program, but dont live or work in Chicago. If accepted, I would transfer to my company's Chicago office. Is this common?
Nico -> JustinM.Hi JustinM. This is something that we see in applications. If relocating is a possibility for your, we just ask that you explain this in your application.
sbell -> Jay JDoes 1 test hold more weight than the other? For instance, are you more impressed with high GMAT scores and less impressed with high GRE scores? There are a lot of b-schools that only accept GMAT test. Your one of the few that accepts either or.
Jay J -> sbellsbell, it doesn't matter to us which exams you take. We will always consider the highest of scores no matter which test nor how many times you sit for the exams.
Michael_W -> Jay JIf I start in Autumn 2015 I may qualify for the CBF program, but if I start in the Winter 2016 quarter I would be over 3 years of work experience. Is either approach advantageous for somebody with my level of work experience?
Jay J -> Michael_WMichael_W, the 3 years of experience is not a hard and fast rule, but more of a guideline. If you are interested in the CBF program, apply for it! If we think you are not the right candidate, but still admissible, we will be sure to discuss with you. Same if you don't apply for the CBF program and we think that that would be the best program for you.
Lan -> BethDo employers generally regard a part time degree differently from a full time degree?
Beth -> LanLan, all students at Chicago Booth earn an MBA from The University of Chicago Booth School of Business. It does not say which program you completed the degree through on your degree or transcript. Also, the faculty and curriculum for the Evening, Weekend, and Full-Time MBA programs are the same. I highly recommend visiting a class. Class visits for the Evening and Weekend program will resume in the beginning of July and the options will be posted the week of June 15.
Sam -> KaraHow much of the focus in the first year is on "case method" classes? Is there a difference between the weekend program and the full time program when it comes to that question?
Kara -> SamSam, the curricular requirements are identical for the Evening, Weekend and Full Time Programs. For example Ram Shivakumar's Competitive Strategy course being taught in the full time program is exactly the same as the weekend section. Across all programs at Booth, faculty use a variety of methods- cases, lectures, group work, etc. It truly is a multi-method approach.
Jeff -> BethI had to relocate to Chicago for work but was in the process of working on my MBA at another program, do you have a process to evaluate and accept any classes from my previous course work?
Beth -> JeffWhile we do not accept any transfer credits, you do not need to retake any courses you previously took. We have 150 courses to choose from and you can take a higher level course to challenge you.
Michael_W -> NicoIn my conversations with current Evening MBA students at Booth, some prefer to take two courses per quarter and take some summer quarters off, while others take one or two courses per quarter year-round. Is either approach recommended?
Nico -> Michael_WHi Michael_W! Your course load is completely up to you and your schedule. You have up to 5 years to complete the 20 courses.
sbell -> Jay JJay J, for your entrepreneurship courses, is the work structured so that you have to build a team around your idea in order to work on your own idea or do the professors at Booth give you the opportunity to work in groups or to work individually?
Jay J -> sbellsbell, it will likely depends on the course and the professor how the group projects/assignments are ran. You will know from the syllabus how the professor operates. And yes, you will have the freedom to work on your own ideas if that is what you want to do!
Sarah -> NicoIn the PT program, how many classes are commonly taken at once? And how often would these classes meet? Thank you!
Nico -> SarahHi Sarah! Each class meets once a week, and most of our students take two classes per quarter.
Sam -> KaraIf you work for a big company that has a program that sponsors its employees, but you do not participate in that program, would that hurt the application in the eyes of the admissions committee?
Kara -> SamSam, this has no impact on our admissions decision. I know of students who opt out of the tuition reimbursement option, as they to not want to be bound by requirements to stay with the company.
Ankita -> Jay JHi, i am interested in the CBF program for evening classes. I have a 3.08 gpa from Purdue in Computer Science and I will have three years work experience in July 2016. i have also started taking part in volunteering activities through my company this year. I will give GMAT this year as well. i heard the CBF program starts in September 2016 with an application deadline in June, do you think there's anything else I could do to strengthen my application/improve my chances of getting in.
Jay J -> AnkitaAnkita, it sounds like you are taking the right steps! Continue to be ambitious, create relationships at work, and focus on career progression/potential in order to make your application as strong as possible.
cfnapier -> BethAre evening part time students eligible to take one Saturday course?
Beth -> cfnapierYes! Evening students can take Weekend classes, if their schedule permits. You can also take Full-Time classes (down at Harper Center in Hyde Park) if you would like as well. Some of students take advantage of this if they have a work conflict.
sbell -> Jay JDo your students come from diverse backgrounds (work wise) or do you have a lot of students who already come with a solid business background?
Jay J -> sbellsbell, we have a really diverse student body in terms of background, experiences, and industry. A snapshot of our Evening program can be found at and the Weekend at
James -> BethHow many hours a week can I expect to dedicate to each course? I currently have a full-time job that involves weekly/bi-weekly travel, and I'm wondering if taking two courses at a time is reasonable.
Beth -> JamesJames - it really depends on the course and your familiarity with the material. We do provide you access to course evaluations, which average the responses from students who took the course on the average amount of time spent outside of class working on the material.
Ankita -> Jay JDoes it help my application if I have a current student in the CBF program provide a recommendation for me?
Jay J -> AnkitaAnkita, if that students knows you well in the work place, it might be a good idea to ask if they would be willing to submit a letter on your behalf. If not, I would focus on people who would strengthen your application through professional relationships.
Ehron_(pronounced_Aaron) -> NicoWhat percentage of your faculty are adjunct professors?
Nico -> Ehron_(pronounced_Aaron)Hi Ehron. This isn't a number I have at my fingertips this moment, but if you would please email the admissions hotline at, I can send you our percentage.
Ehron_(pronounced_Aaron) -> KaraGreetings Ms Northcutt, will seeing my grades from Northwestern in a Masters of Science in Project Management help in my admissions if my test scores were not as high?
Kara -> Ehron_(pronounced_Aaron)Ehron, we highly value advanced degrees and graduate level work. Having good grades in such can enhance your application. Having said that, your GMAT or GRE score is also an important part of your academic profile.
Julio -> BethWhat is the average or typical age of the participants in the evening, weekend, and full time MBA program at Univ of Chicago?
Beth -> JulioThe average age for Evening and Weekend is 30. For Full-Time, the average age is 28.
sbell -> Jay JCan someone talk about what a "strong application" looks like?
Jay J -> sbellsbell, we will look at the whole application very holistically. We will look at academic success/potential, career experience, and community involvement. A more detailed look for what we are looking for can be found at
sbell -> Jay JI plan to get my MBA in a couple of years and besides building strong work experience, what else can I do to impress the admissions council?
Jay J -> sbellsbell, please look at the criteria website that I just sent via this chat.
sbell -> BethHow are student advisers selected? Is it just random selection or do you strategically match students with faculty members with relevant skills and exp. in the students' chosen career track?
Beth -> sbellWhat do you mean student advisers? The mentors at LAUNCH are students who help advise incoming students. They apply and are selected by members of our staff.
Mike -> Jay JHow strict is the CBF 3 year work experience cutoff? Asking because at matriculation I will be a few months over 3 years, yet I'm interested in that program.
Jay J -> MikeMike, it is not a hard and fast requirement. We tend to be lenient. If you are interested in the CBF program, apply for it!
Lan -> NicoHow big is the international student population? Is there a club for international students?
Nico -> LanHi Lan! About 13% of our Evening MBA and 25% of our Weekend MBA population are international students. We do have some student groups that are international focused. Please feel free to look at our list of student groups here:
Sam -> BethDo full time students attend the same recruiting fairs as weekend program students, or are there separate sessions? Can any students go to any of the fairs? If there are separate recruiting sessions, does that mean that you need to be in Chicago and available during the week to attend recruiting programs?
Beth -> SamI'm not sure what you are asking for when you talk about recruiting fairs. We have a Career Service office both at Harper and Gleacher Center. The events put on by Career Services team here at Gleacher Center are geared more towards Evening and Weekend students (full-time working professionals). The timing of the events at Gleacher are generally in the evenings or on the weekends.
sbell -> KaraDo you offer pre MBA programs for interested students?
Kara -> sbellBooth does not offer specific pre-MBA programming. However, you do have the option to take Booth MBA courses as a Graduate Student at Large (GSAL). Up to 3 courses transfer in if admitted. This is a great way to test out the program before submitting your application. For more information about this option, email the Graham School of General Studies contact Esther, She can further advise.

If you go this route, we suggest you take foundation courses such as financial accounting or business statistics and we like to see grades of B+ or higher.
Ankita -> Jay JI will be 26 when I apply for the CBF program with three years experience and a promotion to show career progression. Does the age matter in my application for CBF program? Is the CBF program different from the evening classes MBA program.
Jay J -> AnkitaAnkita, age does not matter during the application process. CBF students tend to be younger, due to the years of experience guideline. The CBF program will yield the same MBA as the rest of EW students.
AnaMaria -> NicoHi I am living in Chicago, and I will like to look for some information about evening program, can I set an appointment with someone in the university?
Nico -> AnaMariaHi AnaMaria. We are hosting an information session on July 14th. This event is a great first step in learning about the Evening MBA program. At the event, we will have admissions staff as well as current students and alumni. Feel free to register here:
cfnapier -> Jay JDo any of the undergraduate faculty ever teach at Booth or have a lecture open to Booth students -- like Steven Levitt?
Jay J -> cfnapiercfnapier, most professors in the program are Booth faculty members. As a Booth student, you are able to attend University wide events, like open and guest lecturers. I don't know if Steven Levitt specifically has ever done an open lecture for the University.
Mike -> BethAs someone interested in starting in the Spring 2016 quarter, is there a 'best' time to apply?
Beth -> MikeMike - the best time is when your application is ready. The Spring 2016 application is live for both Evening and Weekend program. Start and submit today:
Boothie -> Jay JI almost wish we had a separate chat room for CBF programs..... this is wasting my time
Jay J -> BoothieBoothie, I'm sorry you feel that way. I run the CBF admissions process so feel free to email me at to set up a meeting to answer your personal questions.
Walter_Godinez -> NicoWhen do summer class visits start?
Nico -> Walter_GodinezHi Walter_Godinez. Summer quarter Class Visits will start June 27th, and options will be posted the week of June 15th.
Sukmeke -> BethGood Afternoon. Do Admissions favor the GMAT over the GRE? Thanks
Beth -> SukmekeSukmeke, while most applicants do submit with GMAT score, you are more than welcome to submit with either score.
Boothie -> KaraDo you tell the potential candidates if they do not get accepted, if there is a specific reason? (Eg. low GMAT score)
Kara -> BoothieIf you are planning to reapply, we are happy to talk about ways you can improve your application. Simply reach out to the admissions team. Hopefully you won't have to worry about this:)
Michael_W -> Jay JDo the CBF programs only start in the Fall and Spring quarters?
Jay J -> Michael_WMichael_W, its a smaller cohort with specific seminars for these students. We just expanded to the Spring, with our first Evening in take, in January!
sbell -> NicoWhat funding opportunities do you offer students pursuing the entrepreneurship track? I'm assuming you have business planning competition, etc?
Nico -> sbellHi sbell. We hold The New Venture Challenge: as well as other events and programs run through the Polsky Center:
Boothie -> KaraHow quickly do you hope to turn around the evening MBA applicants after 7/1 deadline? When will the decisions be notified and how?
Kara -> BoothieWe will get back to you 4-6 weeks from the date you submit and your application is complete. All news is shared via email, good news is always shared via phone.
Ankita -> Jay JIs full-time MBA considered better than part-time MBA program in general at Booth? if yes, how? and in terms of tuition, are they the same.
Jay J -> AnkitaAnkita, All MBA programs at Booth will yield the same degree and the same classes and same curriculum by the same faculty members. The tuition differs a little bit. We (in EW) charge by the course. Tuition and financial aid information can be found at
sbell -> NicoIf you perform high as a GSAL, does the strengthen your candidacy if you decide to apply for the FT MBA program?
Nico -> sbellHi sbell. As far as class size and strengthening your FT MBA application, I would recommend reaching out to the FT MBA office at
Subi -> BethThis is more of a specific immigration question, than an admissions one. Does Booth allow Weekend MBA students with H1-B visas to transfer to a FT program on an F1 visa if there is a job loss?
Beth -> SubiSubi, while you would not be able to transfer from the part-time to full-time program, our office would certainly work with you and discuss all options to have you remain in the program should you lose your job.
Sarah -> BethSince PT students are commonly working full time and going to school, do PT students have any internship options?
Beth -> SarahSarah, there are no formal internship options via our Career Services available to part-time students (low demand) but you could certainly work on your own to obtain an internship.
Subi -> Jay JSo the next CBF program intake for the Weekend MBA is in Spring 2016 or Fall 2016?
Jay J -> SubiSubi, we have an Evening CBF deadline of July 1, 2015 for the Autumn 2015 start. The Spring 2016 deadline is in January of 2016 for the Evening program. The next Weekend intake will be Autumn 2016. Feel free to look at our CBF websites at (Weekend) and (Evening).
Ashley -> KaraWhat has the biggest impact in your admission decisions? Essays, Undergrad GPA, GMAT, Interview. Is there specific things are your looking for in canidates?
Kara -> AshleyAshley, we take a holistic approach and look at your academic profile (test scores, GPA, etc.), professional background, goals with your MBA, fit at Booth and your interests/hobbies/community involvement. Your interview is also very important. We interview every candidate who submits an application.
Ehron_(pronounced_Aaron) -> KaraIs there a sufficient amount of courses offered in the evening if one is not able to attend weekend classes due to religious injunctions or other obligations?
Kara -> Ehron_(pronounced_Aaron)Yes, you can easily complete your degree without taking any courses on the weekend.
Ashley -> Jay JIs the any admission benefit to taking at least one Graduate Student at Large class before applying?
Jay J -> AshleyAshley, a lot of students will take a GSAL course for 2 reasons: 1) to test Booth for fit and 2) to help boost their application. If you feel like your GPA or GMAT/GRE is holding your application down, a great way to prove success in our classrooms is the GSAL course. Up to three GSAL courses can be transferred into the MBA program. We suggest the foundation courses, Business Statistics and/or Financial Accounting, and we prefer to see grades of B+ or higher.
Julio -> BethWhat would you say are the top two or three reasons why someone might be a better candidate for the Executive MBA program over the Evening and Weekend MBA program?
Beth -> JulioJulio, the Executive MBA program is designed for individuals looking for a general management curriculum, with an average of 13 years of work experience. The Executive MBA program meets every other Friday and Saturday and has a mandatory international component.
Mike -> Jay JBoth classes I've visited had about 30-40 students - is this typical at Booth? Do professors hold office hours like in undergrad?
Jay J -> MikeMike, that is pretty typical. I believe we advertise our average courses to be a bit bigger (around the 50 mark). Professors do hold office hours, but our students tend to set up individual appointments with professors either before or after class.
nickp -> KaraWould a GSLA course with B+ or more offset a low GMAT score, privided that other partsof the application is good.
Kara -> nickpNick, yes, getting a B+ or higher in a GSAL course can offset a lower GMAT score. We prefer you take foundation courses such as business statistics and/or financial accounting. Of course, I have to say simply getting a B+ or higher does not guarantee admissions, as we look at the whole package.
sbell -> Beth"Student advisers" - faculty members who are assigned to incoming students to do regular check-in, answer questions, offer expert guidance, etc. May Booth don't offer this?
Beth -> sbellWe do not assign faculty members to incoming students for this purpose. We have academic advisers on staff who help students with course planning, degree fulfillment, and advising appointments.
Courtney_Haynes -> Jay JRe: on campus recruiting - do part time and full time students have access to the same recruiting event in the spring for those graduating?
Jay J -> Courtney_HaynesCourtney_Haynes, yes FT and PT students have the same access to OCR. PT students do NOT have access to the OCR for internships. Also, if you are receiving $8000/year or more from your employer towards your MBA, you will need written consent from your employer to go through OCR. Anything less than $8000/year, no written consent is needed.
Subi -> Jay JThanks Jay. I understand that you are required to take professional development seminars as a CBF, but does it increase your chances of application if you apply as a CBF vs Regular candidate, especially if you are on the borderline (i.e 3-3.5 years of FT post graduate Work Experience)
Jay J -> SubiSubi, no, both the CBF program and the regular EW programs have about the same acceptance rate.
Boothie -> BethWhat happens if the interviewer is an alum or current student you already know?
Beth -> BoothieIn the event that it happens, we would have you interview with another member of the admissions committee. It doesn't happen as often as you might think.
Ehron_(Aaron) -> KaraI am concerned about traveling through a really bad neighborhood coming to your school, as I understand that your school is housed near a bad neighborhood. Do you have any facts of figures regarding the surrounding neighborhood that could ease my mind about commuting to and from Booth at night, through a bad neighborhood?
Kara -> Ehron_(Aaron)Ehron, the Evening MBA and Weekend MBA programs are at Booth's Gleacher Center, downtown Chicago. See here for location details-
Mike -> NicoCan you give us an indication of what the post application interview is like? Is it as formal as a job interview, or more conversation/fit based?
Nico -> MikeHi Mike. The interview is more conversational and behavioral and will last about 45-60 min. You will be interviewed by a member of our admissions committee which is made up of current students and alumni of the Part-time programs.
AdamFrederico -> KaraI'm curious to hear a students perspective on the social activities and events for evening students. I've heard about the winter formal and other events. What was a highlight? What do you enjoy most outside of the classroom?
Kara -> AdamFredericoAdam, I am happy to connect with you a current student. Shoot me an email,
Ehron_(Aaron) -> Jay JDo you consider religious affiliation in your concept of having a well-rounded, diverse, candidate pool, or do you simply consider minority ethnicity?
Jay J -> Ehron_(Aaron)Ehron, we consider all types of "diversity" while reading applications.
Ehron_(Aaron) -> BethDo you consider disabilities in the application process by assigning them a weight factor?
Beth -> Ehron_(Aaron)Ehron, disabilities cannot and does not have any decision on your final admissions decision.
Ankita -> NicoIf I need to apply for a student loan through Booth, will i need to include the request for loan in my application?
Nico -> AnkitaHi Ankita. You do not have to include any requests for loans in your admissions application. Once admitted to the program, you will work with our financial aid department.
Jamee -> Jay JHi there, I am a current Junior at Arizona State University who is looking to attend Booth five years from now to advance my finance skills- after I have taken on an actual finance job for 2-3 years. What can I be doing now, in my undergrad years, to help bump up my resume as a finance major? I have a lot of internships and I am joining a couple of business clubs in the fall, but is there anything else that I could do now besides these things to boost my resume for the Booth application?
Jay J -> JameeJamee, focus on school and enjoy your time at ASU! We will look much more closely on your professional experience and career progression when it is time for you to apply. I also suggest taking a peek at our CBF program at
sbell -> KaraDoes your school offer interdisciplinary learning options? For instance, students from different programs taking a class together that is relevant to both tracks?
Kara -> sbellStudents take courses across program, you will find a mix of Evening, Weekend and Full Time students in your Booth courses. As part of your MBA, you can also take up to 6 courses anywhere in the University of Chicago. This is a great way to have an interdisciplinary experience.
Mike -> BethAll else equal, does having a Booth Alumnus write one of your letters of recommendation factor into admissions in any way?
Beth -> MikeWhile we always like to hear from our alums, but you want to make sure it is a quality letter of recommendation. If the alum does not know you, having them write you a letter will not help your application.
Ehron_(Aaron) -> BethFollow-up question to Beth - if one's disabilities impact one's ability to test well on standardized tests and may impact one's GPA (while still always maintaining above a 3.0 cumulative at graduation) does the admissions committee consider this in an admissions decision?
Beth -> Ehron_(Aaron)Ehron, you can always utilize the optional essay to discuss any additional factors you would like the admissions committee to be aware of when reviewing your application.
Ankita -> Jay Jwhat are the timings for evening classes for CBF program. and what are the timings for weekend classes for CBF program.
Jay J -> AnkitaAnkita, all academic evening courses are 1 time per week from 6p - 9p M-F. Weekend classes are held on Saturdays from 9-12 and 1:30 - 4:30. The CBF seminars for the Evening program are on Saturday mornings and the Weekend CBF seminars are on Sunday mornings.
Vicky -> NicoHi there. Can you please provide some commentary or advice on how to maximize the classroom visit experience, especially if sitting in on an evening section?
Nico -> VickyHi Vicky! Other than the information I provided earlier in the chat, my advice would be to treat the visit as if you were a current Evening Student commuting into class. Every class is different, and there is no preparation involved before a class visit.
Vicky -> KaraCan you please share your views on the how the profile of any particular incoming class has trended over the past few years? For instance, has any one field (e.g. engineering, arts and sciences) become increasingly represented over time relative to another (e.g. business, finance, economics)
Kara -> VickyVicky, we have certainly seen changes over time, increase in healthcare professionals, female students (of course, we'd love to keep seeing this increase). Our profile remains diverse year over year, and you can see more details here-
sbell -> KaraWhat % of your professors are African American?
Kara -> sbellI do not know off the top of my head. To learn more about our fantastic faculty, see here
Jide -> BethHi everyone! Who would you suggest for letters of recommendation? I'm having a little difficulty tracking down some of my old professors. I have several executives that I currently work with at my current job. Would this be a good place to start?
Beth -> JideFor letters of recommendation, we prefer one from your direct supervisor. For the second letter, we are looking one professional in nature. You can read more about what we are looking for online at
