Lennie Gullan Class of 2014


Leaonard GullianUndergraduate school/major: I obtained a degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and majored in business administration.

Prior to Booth: I was CEO of the UK's premier simulated diamond jewelry company, which specializes in selling through online, TV, and direct mail channels. I also cofounded a consulting company in Cape Town, South Africa, which provides marketing and supply chain management services to South African businesses looking to trade internationally. Prior to business, I played college and professional tennis.

Concentrations: Entrepreneurship, finance, and strategic management.

Activities: Member of the Management Consulting Club, Real Estate Club, Entrepreneurship Venture Capital Club, Wine Club, and Golf Club.

Career plans: I will be working for McKinsey and Company.

Why did you choose to attend Chicago Booth? I chose Booth for its highly flexible curriculum allowing me to tailor my studies and take full advantage of the resources in my areas of concentration. The school's rigorous curriculum coupled with its groundbreaking initiatives, such as the Polsky Center's Experiential Labs and LEAD, made me confident that I would leave Booth a well-rounded thinker, strategist, and leader. While I remember hearing administrators and students speak about the incredible sense of community at Booth, nothing could have prepared me for how amazing the people here are. Everyone is incredibly smart but equally humble and eager to work with each other to learn and grow during our time here and beyond.

What do you consider a "must visit" place or "must do" activity in Chicago? Picnic at a summer concert in Millennium Park.

Marc MurrayUndergraduate school/major: I attended the University of South Africa and majored in finance.

Prior to Booth: I was a professional car racing driver in the UK, I managed a family business, and I worked in private equity.

Concentrations: Accounting, analytic finance, and finance.

Activities: Member of the African Business Group, European Business Group, and Investment Banking Club.

Career plans: I am recruiting for investment banking.

Why did you choose to attend Chicago Booth? I chose to apply to and attend Chicago Booth because of its reputation as one of the very best business schools with an amazing alumni network, its strength in finance, the flexible curriculum, and because of Admit Weekend.

Renju VargheseUndergraduate school/major: I attended the University of Cape Town and have a BS in electrical engineering.

Prior to Booth: I was a project engineer at Mercedes-Benz SA manufacturing plant in East London and then worked as a telecommunications engineer at Eskom Telecomms in Johannesburg.

Concentrations: Finance, operations management, and strategic management.

Activities: Member of Management Consulting Group, Corporate Management and Strategy Group, Chicago Women In Business, Chicago Africa Business Group, Wine Club, International Development Group, and PhotoBooth.

Career plans: I am recruiting for strategy consulting.

Why did you choose to attend Chicago Booth? Booth offers a wealth of diversity that comes through in the people you work with and the ideas you develop. Every day teaches you to challenge everything you come across. This ensures a well balanced worldview and an ideal mindset to tackle unique problems. Also, Booth allowed me to design my own path through school, backed by the kind of academic rigor that leading companies seek out.

What do you consider a "must visit" place or "must do" activity in Chicago? Popping your ears on the fastest-moving elevator in the US while heading for drinks at the Signature Room on the 95th floor of the Hancock tower at night.

Undergraduate school/major: I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign and have a degree in political science.

Concentrations: Finance, international business, and strategic management.

Activities: Member of the Management Consulting Group, Armed Forces Group, and Net Impact.

Career plans: I am recruiting for management consulting, with the hope to obtain an internship with a major firm, then eventually transition into social sector consulting.

Why did you choose to attend Chicago Booth? I chose to attend Chicago Booth because it provided an environment where I would constantly be challenged to grow, personally and professionally. During my short time here, I've already learned much more than I would have during an entire year of undergraduate course work. The faculty and students here are all top notch; I feel compelled to bring my A-game every single day in order to bring value to our collaborative learning environment.
