The discussion will be about their Booth experience and how it has made an impact on their careers. Rachel is a second-year student at Booth. She spent the first five years of her career at Boston-based investment firm Natixis Global Asset Management in various sales and marketing roles. This summer, she interned at Ellevest, a VC-backed digital investing platform for women. At Booth she continues to consult part-time for Ellevest, pursue concentrations in General Management and Finance, and is the President of OUTreach. Fun fact: her favorite way to get to Hyde Park is biking.
Austin is a second-year student pursuing concentrations in Marketing Management, Managerial and Organizational Behavior, and Entrepreneurship. Born and raised in the Maryland suburbs of DC, Austin majored in Biomedical Engineering and Psychology at Johns Hopkins University. Prior to coming to Booth, Austin worked at Bloomberg LP as a software developer for the news functions on the Bloomberg Terminal. Over the summer, Austin interned at Spokin Inc, a health tech startup based in Chicago.
John is a second year student concentrating in Managerial & Organizational Behavior, Finance, and Strategic Management. Born in Detroit, Michigan, he received a bachelor’s degree with Honors in English from The University of Chicago and a master’s in education from Teach for America’s partnership with Pace University. He currently serves as the LGBT Admissions Fellow, the Lifestyle Editor for the Chicago Business newspaper, and as a member of both the University of Chicago-wide LGBTQ and minority advisory boards.
Prior to coming to Booth, John spent eight years in education and non-profit management—first as a high school English teacher in New York City for five years, and later as a charter school co-founder and professional development lead/ coach in Los Angeles. This past summer, John interned in the human resources department at Reformation, an environmentally-conscious, sustainability-focused fashion company in Los Angeles. He hopes to pursue a human resources or corporate strategy role post-MBA. In his spare time, John can be found at an improv show, exercising, or contemplating why Beyoncé is such an entertainment genius.
Marcela García Peña Silveyra
Mars is a second year student at Booth with concentrations in Strategic Management and Finance. She's also OUTreach's Student Engagement co-chair. Prior to joining Booth Mars worked at Grupo Lala, the largest dairy company in Mexico in Strategic Planning. She completed her summer internship at Bain Mexico as a Summer Associate working on customer experience for a financial services provider. She loves karaoke, traveling, tacos, and dogs.
In addition to serving as part of the admissions committee, Kim works with the operations team on global outreach and events. Prior to Chicago Booth, Kim worked in The University of Chicago's Career Advancement office as a career advisor, advising undergraduate students within the UChicago Careers in Business program. Kim earned her bachelor of arts degree in hospitality and business at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Additionally, Kim has a master’s of arts degree in counseling for higher education and student affairs from Montclair State University.
Senior Associate Director, Admissions
Joanna joined the Full Time MBA Admissions office in August 2007 and has worked with various groups across the team. Currently as Communications Specialist, she works on developing and executing integrated marketing and communication strategies. Prior to Booth Joanna served as an account executive for marketing and advertising agencies New York and Chicago. Joanna's experience in higher education includes managing admissions for the Chicago Campus of Lake Forest Graduate School of Management, as well as acting as student advisor, instructor, and program coordinator for Lorenzo de’ Medici – The Italian International Institute, an international university in Florence, Italy. Joanna received her bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio University and her MBA from Lake Forest Graduate School of Management.
