Oct 06, 10:01:44 knjohnson -> Jay J I currently live and work in San Francisco. I have heard there are some students that fly each weekend to attend the weekend MBA program. Do you know how many people do this regularly?
Jay J -> knjohnson We have about 350 active weekend students. 80% will commute to Chicago from outside of IL. I'm not 100% sure how many we have from the Bay Area. We will be hosting a dinner in SF tomorrow night with current students and alumni! More information and registration can be found at https://apply.chicagobooth.edu/register/?id=1649ce9d-39cf-4ef4-aa66-26cbe19a5741.
Oct 06, 10:03:30 Marcus -> Everyone Greetings, this is Marcus Wordlaw, assistant director of admissions for the Evening MBA and Weekend MBA programs, I am anxious to hear your questions
Oct 06, 10:05:27 ThoméNicocelli,MD -> Beth Hi from Columbia University in New York I am attending your event in Chicago on October 9th -- looking forward to it -- and have one quick question: Why do you think Booth MBA would be the best MBA choice for a medical doctor that plans to launch a healthcare start-up after the MBA? Thanks for answering my question and I look forward to October 9th at Booth. Thomé Nicocelli, MD
Beth -> ThoméNicocelli,MD Hello Thome, Booth's Entrepreneurship concentration and courses integrates all business areas including marketing, finance, operations, and strategy. In addition, you'll be allowed to test in a real world environment. These courses will help you in the launch of your start-up. You can learn more about the entrepreneurship concentration, view courses and faculty bios online at https://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/academics/curriculum/entrepreneurship.
Oct 06, 10:06:59 pwostrosk -> Nico Hello. Thank you for taking the time do do all of these information sessions. What are you looking for in an ideal candidate? When you look at someone's resume, essays, GMAT score, etc, what questions are you trying to answer about that person in relation to their acceptance into the program?
Nico -> pwostrosk Hi pwostrosk. Thank you for your question. Our full Evaluation Cirteria can be found on our website here: https://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/apply/criteria

In short, we are looking at your ability to handle the Booth curriculum, contribute to the robust Booth community, and potential career impact.
Oct 06, 10:07:17 Sai_V -> Jay J Are there any Information sessions in Austin, Tx?
Jay J -> Sai_V Sai_V, we will be in Austin on Jan. 27. Info and registration can be found at https://apply.chicagobooth.edu/register/?id=36b16d0b-d525-4e2b-92e0-890985938606
Oct 06, 10:07:52 Sai_V -> Marcus I currently work in an Engineering Job. What sort of opportunities does the curriculum provide to obtain hands-on learning opportunities?
Marcus -> Sai_V Sai, thanks for the question. We have many students with an engineering background in the MBA program. Hands-on learning opportunities are spread throughout your workload. It all depends on what you are looking to pursue. We have events throughout chicagoland area from networking, partnerships with companies, and group work in the class through seminars and real-time company projects that students work on
Oct 06, 10:08:06 Adam -> Lindsay Thanks for taking the time to answer our questions today! I was wondering if the student-led groups are intended for full-time students only. For example, I’m very interested in the Health Care Group – could I be a part of that organization even if I was in the evening program?
Lindsay -> Adam Hi Adam. We have over 40 student groups associated with the Evening and Weekend MBA programs, including the Health Care Group, which you can read more about here: http://www.chicagobooth.edu/parttime/beyondacad/groups/healthcare.aspx
Oct 06, 10:12:18 Jay J -> Everyone All, I've gotten a few questions about where we are travelling this Fall. Here is the list: http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/events/receptions. More winter events will be posted later this Fall!
Oct 06, 10:13:36 Sanket -> Nico Do you have any info session coming up in Indianapolis area?
Nico -> Sanket Hi Sanket. At this point in time, we do not a have an Info Session planned for Indianapolis this Fall. You can find a full list of where we will be outside of Chicago here: https://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/events/receptions
Oct 06, 10:14:53 BoothMBAProspect -> Marcus Hello, I'm really interested in the Weekend program, but live in Boston. Is this feasible?
Marcus -> BoothMBAProspect BoothMBAProspect -- Thanks for the question. It is absolutely feasible to attend the Weekend program. Classes meet on Saturdays, and students from the Boston area travel to either of our Chicago airports. We can provide discounts on certain airlines and hotels in the city.

In fact, we are hosting a dinner in Boston 10/13 to network with alumni, and learn more about the opportunities to travel to Chicago and complete your MBA program: http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/events/receptions
Oct 06, 10:15:24 Michal -> Jay J How is the weekend curriculum work with student groups, events, etc. such that folks out of town, flying in every weekend, can get involved outside of the classroom at Booth? My assumption is that all day Saturday weekend students are in lectures.
Jay J -> Michal Michal, our Saturday class sessions are from 9 - 12 and 1:30 - 4:30. Most of our student groups will utilize the 90 minutes between class sessions to host their meetings, events, guest lectures, etc. so that both Evening and Weekend students can participate!
Oct 06, 10:16:24 BoothMBAProspect -> Nico I only have two years of work experience. Should I wait to pursue my MBA until I have more experience?
Nico -> BoothMBAProspect Hi BoothMBAProspect. You do not need to wait for more work experience, as we have a program specifically designed for individuals with three years or less professional work experience. Find more information on the Chicago Business Fellows program here: https://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/early-career-candidates
Oct 06, 10:16:57 skylar_jones -> Lindsay Is the GRE acceptable? What kind of scores are acceptable? And if you've taken both the GMAT and the GRE, do you consider both?
Lindsay -> skylar_jones Hi skylar_jones, great question. We do accept both GRE and GMAT scores, and have no preference for which you choose to submit. Since we have only been accepting the GRE for a few years, we do not have averages for those scores, but the middle 80% of our admitted students score between a 640-710 on the GMAT. We will always take your highest score.
Oct 06, 10:17:19 Enrique -> Jay J Thank you for answering our questions, I am currently unemployed, but looking for jobs. Is there an employment requirement to apply for Weekend MBA?
Jay J -> Enrique Enrique, there is no employment requirement for the program, however most of our students are employed, especially at the start of the program.
Oct 06, 10:17:44 Anthony -> Lindsay Hello, Does the admissions committee have a preference for the GMAT over the GRE?
Lindsay -> Anthony Hi Anthony, we do not have a preference with regards to GRE versus GMAT. Feel free to submit whichever score you choose! We will always take your highest score.
Oct 06, 10:18:56 skylar_jones -> Beth Are Weekend MBA students able to take advantage of the same alumni base as the full-time program?
Beth -> skylar_jones Yes! All Booth MBA students are able to utilize the database of 50,000 alumni.
Oct 06, 10:20:43 Michal -> Jay J Do students fly in on Fridays or stay all weekend until Sunday afternoons to get more involved?
Jay J -> Michal Michal, each Weekend student has their own strategy. Some will come Fridays, leave Saturday. Some will come Saturday morning, leave Saturday after class. Some will come the whole weekend. Some will come Saturday and leave Sunday. Everyone has their own way of doing it.
Oct 06, 10:21:04 Adam -> Nico I’m very interested in continuing a career in healthcare after business school. Have you seen a significant interest from healthcare firms during the recruiting process?
Nico -> Adam Hi Adam. I do not have a specific number of healthcare firms participating in our recruiting processes on hand. However, if this is something you are interested in discussing, someone from our admissions team will be able to discuss further statistics. Please email our hotline at eveningweekend-admissions@chicagobooth.edu to schedule.
Oct 06, 10:21:51 Michal -> Nico Why doesn't Booth publish the avg. GMAT score for the evening/weekend program like it does for the full-time program?
Nico -> Michal Hi Michal. The Evening MBA and Weekend MBA average GMAT falls around a 680 each quarter.
Oct 06, 10:26:38 Enrique -> Jay J An earlier response mentioned discounts were provided on airlines. Can you please elaborate on that?
Jay J -> Enrique Enrique, we have some limited discounts on airfare. I can't elaborate as I don't know the details. Most of our students find other ways to get the most out of travel (certain credit cards, points, etc.) The discounts on hotels is what students use more often. We offer those to over 60 hotels around our downtown campus and range anywhere from 2 to 5 star hotels.
Oct 06, 10:28:16 PB -> Jay J Hi I am a software engineer, and i want to stay in the technology industry after my MBA, i was wondering if there are technology management specific courses at Booth, and does booth have a strong connection with tech(computer science) industry.
Jay J -> PB PB, there are some tech industry courses, though you will be hard-pressed to find industry specific courses in our curriculum. We like to teach business acumen and foundations that will span industry. You can find our course search feature at https://intranet.chicagobooth.edu/pub/coursesearch/coursesearch.
Oct 06, 10:28:19 skylar_jones -> Marcus Do you need to have one of your recommendations come from a current employer?
Marcus -> skylar_jones Skylar, thanks for the question. One of your recommendations should ideally come from a direct supervisor/manager if possible at your current employer. The other recommendation can be outside your organization, professional in nature. If you have not worked with your current employer/manager for a significant amount of time, this recommendation can come from a former supervisor who can speak specifically to your skills and professional work ethic
Oct 06, 10:28:36 Adam -> Nico When can I submit an application if my intent is to apply for the Autumn 2016 class?
Nico -> Adam Hi Adam. Thank you for your question. Our Evevning MBA and Weekend MBA Autumn 2016 applications are live, so can submit at anytime. We operate on rolling admissions.
Oct 06, 10:29:49 Michal -> Jay J Nico – Thanks for providing that.Jay – Thanks for your answer. I understand that each student may have their own strategy but what I was trying to gauge is if there is a large pool of weekend students that do stay longer on the weekends than just the lectures? I am from Seattle, and I am thinking about doing the weekend program, which would be about 4-hour flight each way each weekend so I would love to leverage that time investment as much as possible when in Chicago, but that will be hard to do if I’m the only one around outside of lectures on the weekends.
Jay J -> Michal Michal, I don't know if we track the numbers as far as what students do. Anecdotally, yes, a good number of students hang around and get the most out of this experience.
Oct 06, 10:33:56 Moderator -> Everyone Did you know 80% of weekend students commute from outside of Chicago every weekend?
Oct 06, 10:33:59 skylar_jones -> Beth When is the next info session?
Beth -> skylar_jones Our next Information Session is Friday, Nov 6. You can register online today at https://apply.chicagobooth.edu/register/?id=0856c543-21b1-4192-83de-d9db9c478cb2. At the Information Session you will hear from admissions directors along with a panel of current students and alumni.
Oct 06, 10:36:27 Adam -> Beth My undergraduate degree is in the life sciences and my work experience has been entirely in healthcare. How facilitative is the Booth program to students without a traditional business education?
Beth -> Adam Adam, many of our applicants have non-business backgrounds and do very well here at Booth. Your experience in addition to you non-business background will help give diversity in the classroom and something I would talk about in your application/admissions interview.
Oct 06, 10:38:03 Michal -> Jay J Do you have a rough breakdown by region of where students are commuting from?
Jay J -> Michal Michal, the mid west is the biggest region represented. Seattle and the Bay Area are the largest areas in the west. Houston/Dallas/Austin are the largest feeders from the South. And DC is the largest feeder from the East.
Oct 06, 10:41:02 PB -> Lindsay can you please explain a bit about lab courses, can we take lab courses as electives?
Lindsay -> PB PB, Part Time students can utilize the experiential learning/lab courses if you are able and willing to put in the hours outside of the classroom. Students are typically working directly with a client or company to help them solve a problem. PT students do find those courses more difficult to manage than FT students, simply due to the time commitment. More Evening students than Weekend students take advantage of those opportunities. You can check out some of our lab course options here: http://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/weekend/academics/lab-courses
Oct 06, 10:43:40 Did you know -> Moderator 42% of part-time students at Booth are married or are in domestic partnership
Oct 06, 10:43:46 skylar_jones -> Nico Can i study abroad as a part time student?
Nico -> skylar_jones Hi skylar_jones. You most certainly can study abroad as a part-time student. You can find more information on international study here: https://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/academics/international

I will also point you to our blog on a short-term study abroad: http://blogs.chicagobooth.edu/blog/EW_Admissions/DBI_Doing_Business_in_Israel/ewadmissions/102?redirCnt=1&nav=entry
Oct 06, 10:46:22 Adam -> Jay J The various competitions that Booth offers are very appealing to me. Is there differentiation between part time students and full time students in these competitions? Or do all students compete together regardless of their program of study?
Jay J -> Adam Adam, I assume you mean competitions like the New Venture Challenge? All students will participate together regardless of program.
Oct 06, 10:46:51 Moderator -> Everyone Our chat will be ending in approximately 15 minutes. Please submit your final questions so we can answer all of them.
Oct 06, 10:52:05 Michal -> Beth Beth - That is great to hear! One of the things that attracts me to Booth is the diversity of the class.
Beth -> Michal I would also recommend visiting a class as well. You can view our options online at https://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/evening/admissions/class-visit.
Oct 06, 10:53:41 skylar_jones -> Beth how many concentrations are available?
Beth -> skylar_jones We have 13 concentrations available! You can see the list and learn more online at https://www.chicagobooth.edu/programs/weekend/academics/curriculum.
Oct 06, 10:56:18 BoothMBAProspect -> Marcus I want to apply for the Winter Quarter, deadline this Friday, but I am taking the GMAT on Monday 10/12. Could I still submit my application or do I need to wait until next quarter?
Marcus -> BoothMBAProspect BoothMBAProspect: Thanks for the question. You can certainly still apply for this upcoming deadline. Please follow-up with us as soon as your GMAT is completed through the admission hotline at 312.464.8700 or eveningweekend-admissions@ChicagoBooth.edu. We will then update your file with your GMAT score prior to your interview.
Oct 06, 11:00:12 Sai_V -> Beth Thank you for taking time to answer our questions. Is OCR accessible over the weekends and can weekend students use OCR services?
