The Digital Effect: Integrated Communications for the 21st Century

Venue: Gleacher Center, Room 406

As social media becomes a standard marketing practice for almost every business out there, it seems like old news. This event focuses on new ways for businesses to think about, and derive value, from social media outlets through crowdsourcing, new methods of innovating, and social listening.

Zach Walz, Networked Insights

Social Media is no longer just a way of pushing your content to consumers. Every day, millions of individuals interact with each other in an unfiltered environment. Analyzing conversations, often referred to as social listening, can give companies unprecedented access to the thoughts and feelings of their customers. Networked Insights utilizes social listening to optimize media planning and guide product development and innovation for brands such as RIM, MillerCoors, EA, MTV and Kraft. Learn how they help their clients and how you can begin to put social media to work for you.

Zach Walz is currently a Research Analyst at Networked Insights, where he functions as a both a tech geek and social anthropologist. Through uncovering trends in social media, he is able to discover how groups and individuals interact in the online sphere. Prior to Networked Insights, he served in account management for hyper-local advertising agency Geomentum. He is currently in the part-time program at Booth, pursuing concentrations in Marketing and Econometrics & Statistics.

Eric Siegmann, Drew Consultants

Social media platforms provide efficient and effective means to connect with outside innovators and capture new ideation in an organic and systematic manner. We’ll consider frameworks and approaches for optimization and tracking of social media to drive innovation and concept validation faster and stronger, while aligning company social media activities with program objectives for fastest internal adoption and greater market success

Eric Siegmann is a principal at Drew Consultants LLC, a management consulting practice that focuses on building communities around products and services. Eric dramatically improves clients’ customer engagement, sales cycles and customer experience through measured strategy and use of technology (e.g. user oriented sites, scalable social media platforms, data analytics). He is recognized for helping clients improve how they interact with the customer across all channels and especially the web through implementation of flexible, low-cost tools.

Eric is also COO for Career Investments, helping develop growth strategies and infrastructure for an emerging firm focused on individual career management and corporate talent services in multiple geographic markets. Prior to Drew Consultants and Career Investments, Eric was a manager at Diamond Management & Technology Consultants. Prior to Diamond, Eric held client service and operations management positions at Microhedge of Sungard. Eric earned his Master of Business Administration in strategic management, finance, and international business from the University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business. He earned his B.S. at The Ohio State University in Columbus.

Pete Burgeson, CrowdSPRING

Before social media, the term “crowdsourcing” was meaningless. Now, however, it has become a part of the common vernacular, for marketers and entrepreneurs. We’ll look beyond the value of digital communications for existing brands to explore the possibilities for entrepreneurial marketers, and the products and services that have become a reality, thanks to the unprecedented level of connectivity the internet provides. You’ll hear how crowdSPRING, which serves as a brokerage house of sorts for businesses in need of creative services to be paired with talented designers, has leveraged social concepts to offer a degree of access for both artists and business owners never before imagined.

Pete Burgeson is the Director of Marketing at crowdSPRING, a company that leverages the power of the crowd to help people from around the world access creative talent, and to help creatives from across the globe find new customers. Pete is the lead equipment manager for the company's championship ping pong team. Pete has over a decade of experience in building and marketing companies, both large and small. While at Leo Burnett in Chicago, Pete launched and managed national campaigns for Marlboro, Coca-Cola, Altoids and Delta Air Lines. He left Burnett to launch his own online venture where he accidentally built three online graphic design and printing businesses, which eventually became some of the largest printing sites on the internet. Most recently, Pete was Director of Marketing for 1-800-GOT-JUNK? in Vancouver where, after starting as the only person in marketing, he led the startup's international expansion to three continents and helped take them from $12M in revenue to over $160M in just three years.
