"One of the things I like about cooking is the immediacy. When you're off doing your research, it takes months, you've got to revise it. When you cook, that evening you see the results. You make people happy."
Robert Gertner, Joel F. Gemunder Professor of Strategy and Finance and newly named deputy dean for part-time MBA programs at Booth, prepares pie dough in the kitchen of his Hyde Park home. Gertner became interested in cooking during graduate school at MIT, when he lived in a big house with lots of roommates. When their youngest son started college last August, Gertner and his wife became empty nesters and decided to redo their kitchen, where he now has the room he needs to bake and make his favorite slow-cooked meat dishes. "My wife and I like to cook together, and we don't get in each other's way in here." - Tom Power
