The Graduation ceremony will take place on Friday, April 12, at 4 p.m. in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel on the University of Chicago campus in Hyde Park.

Friday, April 12, 2019

2:15 p.m.: Buses leave from Gleacher for Harper. Degree candidates assemble in the Harper Center, located across the street from Rockefeller Chapel.

3:30 p.m.: Doors open at Rockefeller Chapel for guest seating. Seating for guests is open and is first-come, first-served. All guests must have a ticket.

4:00 p.m.: Ceremony begins in Rockefeller Memorial Chapel. The ceremony lasts approximately 1.5 hours.

Graduate Line-Up

Candidates will begin to line up at 2:45 p.m. the Harper Center. Candidates pick up a marching card, which indicates marching line placement. Significant time is required to put candidates in the proper order. Therefore, candidates not in line by 3:25 p.m. will not be permitted to march and participate in the graduation ceremony. Candidates will process from the Harper Center to the chapel.

You will be able to leave your valuables with family and friends or in the locked classroom at Harper where you will line up for the ceremony. The University is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

Guests are not permitted in the candidate line-up area nor are they allowed to march or sit in the graduate seating area.

Photography and Livestream

The program office has arranged for a photographer to take photos of the diploma presentation for each student. There will also be an opportunity to have individual portraits taken after the ceremony in Harper Center. These photographs will be available for purchase from the company with whom we have contracted.

Rockefeller Chapel has limited seating. Each degree candidate will receive five guest tickets regardless of whether they are attending the ceremony or not. The candidate does not need a ticket. All guests including babies are required to have a ticket to enter Rockefeller Memorial Chapel.

Tickets will be available for pick up at Gleacher Center beginning Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Tickets are unable to be mailed due to the short timeframe between receipt and distribution. Lost tickets cannot be replaced.

  • Tuesday, April 9: 3–6 p.m.
  • Wednesday, April 10: 3–7 p.m.
  • Thursday, April 11: 1:30–8 p.m.
  • Friday, April 12: 9 a.m.–1 p.m.

Shuttle Service from Gleacher Center to Hyde Park Campus

The Executive MBA Program will provide coach buses for graduates and their guests who make online reservations no later than March 8, 2019.

All passengers, including children of all ages, are required to have a ticket. Children must be accompanied by a parent or other person who will be responsible for their behavior on the bus. Reserved coach tickets will be available for pick up at Gleacher Center beginning Tuesday, April 9, 2019.

Coaches will leave Gleacher Center promptly at 2:15 p.m. on Friday, April 12, and leave the Booth reception at the Charles M. Harper Center starting at 6:00 p.m. Please note: Only those holding tickets will be allowed on the coach buses. Map of Hyde Park »

Parking

Parking on the main campus can be challenging since the university shares its neighborhood with the Hyde Park community. Graduates should allow extra time if they plan to arrive by private car and park on campus. Street parking is available on the Midway Plaisance, as well as on streets within the campus. Note regarding child care during graduation weekend: The university is unable to provide child care during any of these events. If you do not plan to bring a relative or friend to Chicago to assist you with the care of your young children, we suggest that you contact your hotel concierge for information on licensed child-care services.

For Degree Candidates

Degree candidates who need special accommodations must contact Deb Fallahay, XP North America to make arrangements for the graduation ceremony, by Tuesday, April 9, 2019.

Please list your full name and cohort and the type of assistance you require:

  • I am in a wheelchair
  • I am using a walker/crutches
  • I have visual or hearing impairments
  • Other

Candidates who need arrangements for religious or cultural reasons should also contact Deb Fallahay. In your message, please clearly indicate what your needs are for the ceremony.

For Guests

Accessible seating is available for guests with disabilities and up to two companions inside Rockefeller Chapel. This special seating area is designated for individuals using wheelchairs/motorized chairs, persons with limited mobility, and guests with visual or hearing impairments.

Chicago Booth/the University of Chicago does not supply wheelchairs for graduation ceremonies. We can offer a special entrance and reserved seating closest to the disability entrance for your guest.

Requests for guest chapel accommodations must be submitted by Friday, March 29, 2019. To make arrangements, please submit your email request to Deb Fallahay. Please provide the following:

  • Name of graduate, with email address and cell phone number
  • Name of guest who needs assistance
  • What type of assistance is required?
  • Guest is in a wheelchair/motorized chair
  • Guest is using walker/crutches
  • Guest has visual or hearing impairments
  • Other
  • Name of persons(s) who will accompany guest in need of assistance
  • Companion #1
  • Companion #2

Chicago Booth hosts a reception for all Executive MBA graduates and guests immediately following the ceremony in the Charles M. Harper Center, across the street from Rockefeller Chapel. Tickets are not required for this event. Children are welcome.
