Ralph Shayne

Adjunct Assistant Professor of Entrepreneurship

Ralph Shayne is an operating partner at private equity firm Altamont Capital Partners, and focuses on growth-stage investment opportunities in the specialty finance, warranty, asset management and insurance markets, with a particular interest in finding applications of disruptive technology trends that can provide operational lift and a competitive advantage.

Ralph has an entrepreneurial track record that includes building three unique businesses in specialty finance and telecommunications from the ground up. He co-founded two undisputed market leaders, Oasis Financial, which provide consumer legal funding and medical lien factoring, and PayLink Direct, which provides payment plans for vehicle service contracts. Ralph built a national direct to consumer brand through direct response TV and digital campaigns, and provided industry leadership on the regulatory front. He has guided these businesses from launch through multiple successful ownership exits, most recently while serving as CEO of Oasis Financial.

Prior to his entry into the financial services sector, Ralph guided the expansion of local telecommunication assets at startup carrier Looking Glass Networks and at MCI WorldCom during the early days of the physical buildout of the Internet's infrastructure. While in the telecommunications sector, Ralph deeply immersed himself in emerging technology trends and built bridges between the technical experts and investors. Ralph currently pursues the same passion for understanding the strategic and financial benefits of technology by exploring future use cases for artificial intelligence, (including machine learning), blockchain and predictive analytics. In addition to exploring investment opportunities for Altamont in the financial services sector, he provides fractional CEO services for early-stage and middle-market firms and consults on data analytics and optimization opportunities.

Ralph earned a Masters of Business Administration from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Bachelor of Arts from Haverford College in physics.
