Lingwei Cheng teaches Data Analysis with Python at Chicago Booth. Additionally, she works on a number of evaluation and data science projects at the University of Chicago Urban Labs - Poverty Lab where she is a data analyst.
Prior to joining Urban Labs, Cheng worked for various Chinese newspapers, as well as at Knight Lab, where she focused on innovation in journalism and media. She also worked on software projects with the UChicago Computation Institute and IT Services.
In terms of her research, Cheng is interested in using predictive analytics to enhance social services and organizational decision-making. She’s been working with several city governments and providers in areas of homelessness and healthcare on benchmarking and improving their service and human resource performances. She hopes to bring her applied research experience to the classroom where students can learn to bridge theories with practices.
Cheng holds a BA in political science and international business from Dickinson College and an MS in computational analysis and public policy from the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy.
She enjoys going to concerts and learning foreign languages in her free time.
