This Mergers and Acquisitions program approaches M&A from both a strategic and a financial perspective. The program focuses on M&A as a tactic to implement company strategy and deepens participants' understanding of different phases of the M&A process: target identification; the deal phase; due diligence; different valuation methods. The second part of the program focuses on the M&A integration process and leading change, and introduces research-based evidence on the statistics and psychology of typical post-merger processes.

This is a modular program taking place in London and Helsinki. By attending this program, you will:

  • Gain understanding of the M&A due diligence process and develop your due diligence skills.
  • Acquire a toolkit and models for testing, validating, and valuating a deal.

Stephen Morrissette

Adjunct Associate Professor of Strategic Management

Steve Morrissette's career includes large corporate experience in mergers & acquisitions and banking as well as entrepreneurial projects as an investor and founding CEO of several start-up businesses. In addition to 25 years of practitioner expertise, his academic career includes 10 years of full-time teaching and extensive scholarship on entrepreneurial finance including a comprehensive study of angel investors published in the Journal of Private Equity, numerous articles on the banking industry, as well as presentations and journal articles on M&A.

Pekka Mattila

Professor of Practice

Dr. Pekka Mattila serves as a Professor of Practice at the Aalto University School of Business. He works frequently with both European and Asian executive audiences on themes of strategic management and agility, strategy co-creation, business model innovation, executive leadership, top team dynamics, change management, organizational culture and strategic marketing. Since spring 2011 he has served as the Group Managing Director and Associate Dean of Aalto University Executive Education. In addition to his academic activities Dr. Mattila has conducted an active business career. Currently he serves as the Chairman of the Board or as a Member of the Board at a number of innovative companies. Previously he served in executive, management and senior staff positions in the Nordic financial services industry. From 2012 till 2014 he served as a board member at a leading Finnish bank.

Dr. Mattila holds a doctorate and masters in sociology at the University of Helsinki and an Executive MBA at London Business School. Over the years, he has frequently visited a number of prestigious European and Asian universities teaching management, organizational behaviour, marketing and sociology. Currently he is an External Examiner for the prestigious London College of Fashion, part of University of the Arts of London.

Dr. Mattila has authored a number of managerial books on leadership, change management and strategic marketing and sales. Currently he serves as the Chairman of the Board for the foundation operating the renowned Helsinki Festival and as a Member of the Board at the Finnish Society of Crafts and Design (Design Forum Finland). Dr. Mattila’s consulting and coaching career started in 2003, and his corporate clients comprise over 230 Nordic and international companies, entrepreneurial ventures as well as prominent public sector and academic institutions.

Jukka Luoma, D.Sc.

Assistant Professor of Marketing

Professor Jukka Luoma is a versatile scholar in strategic marketing. His teaching and research focuses on competitive dynamics, market-oriented strategies, and the use of models and data in organizational decision making.

Building on an operations research background, Luoma earned his doctoral degree in marketing at the Aalto University School of Business. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Marketing at Aalto. Previously, he has also had visiting scholar positions at the Darden School of Business and McIntire School of Commerce, both at the University of Virginia.

Luoma’s research appears and is forthcoming in top-ranked academic journals in his field (e.g., Journal of Marketing, Strategic Management Journal). Luoma is an experienced educator, and he has a reputation as an excellent teacher. Presently, he teaches at Aalto University School of Business and Aalto University Executive Education.
