At Economic Outlook 2021 in London, leading economists from Chicago Booth discussed and debated how the COVID-19 pandemic and Brexit are still feeding uncertainty in European economies.

Our panel of expert speakers featured Booth professors Randall S. Kroszner, Veronica Guerrieri, and Brent Neiman. Their talk focused on the role fiscal and monetary policy played in addressing economic problems over the last year and how policymakers can confront the challenges still to come.

Randall S. Kroszner served as a governor of the Federal Reserve System from 2006 until 2009. He chaired the committee on Supervision and Regulation of Banking Institutions and the committee on Consumer and Community Affairs. He took a leading role in developing responses to the financial crisis and in undertaking new initiatives to improve consumer protection and disclosure.

Veronica Guerrieri

Ronald E. Tarrson Professor of Economics and Willard Graham Faculty Scholar

Veronica Guerrieri studies macroeconomics, labor and financial market frictions, search theory, dynamic contracting, and growth theory. She has been a research associate of the National Bureau of Economic Research since 2013, and she has been a consultant at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago since 2014.

Stephanie Flanders is the former chief market strategist for Europe at JP Morgan Asset Management in London. She’s been a reporter for The New York Times, economics editor for the BBC, editorial-writer and economics columnist at the Financial Times, and an economist at the Institute for Fiscal Studies and London Business School. She serves as chair of the nonprofit arts company Artichoke, trustee of the Kennedy Memorial Trust, and a fellow of the Society of Professional Economists.
