Robert Wardrop

Robert is an economic sociologist and the Executive Director of the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance, an inter-disciplinary research group at the University of Cambridge studying new instruments and channels of finance emerging outside of the banking and capital markets system. He is a member of the Finance & Accounting group at the Cambridge Judge Business School, and teaches the New Venture Finance and Alternative Finance courses in the MBA and Master of Finance programmes. Prior to entering the world of academia in 2010, Robert had a 30-year career as an entrepreneur and professional investor, and continues to privately invest in the TMT sector, most recently as the lead investor and non-exec Director of Plat. One, an Italian-US IoT SaaS business acquired by SAP in September 2016. He is a member of the Global Technology Advisory Panel for the Monetary Authority of Singapore, and a member of the Chicago Booth Global Advisory Board. Robert holds an MSc in Social & Cognitive Anthropology from the London School of Economics, an MBA from the University Of Chicago Booth School Of Business, and is currently finishing a PhD in Economic Sociology at Cambridge.
